need to come up with a heater for my boat. No enclosure, just open bow I/O and it needs to be cheap! _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever, Live as if you'll die tomorrow. |

What about using one of those propane flameless thingies? I picked up one that fit into a cup holder for like $30 or something. _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. A great friend will sit next to you saying, "man that was cool as f*ck!" |

We used heating mats on our bathroom floor. If you can happen to get those under the seat cushions that should work.
In our basement they're under the floor tiles and I'm guessing it was pretty cheap. _________________

I haven't used it in the boat yet but I've used it in my 7x14' enclosed trailer and it raised it up enough that I had to turn it off in the middle of a upper 40 degree night. If I remember correctly a single disposable tank keeps it going for about 5 hours on high.
This one is similar to the one I have: http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=5036-850&categoryid=3000 _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. A great friend will sit next to you saying, "man that was cool as f*ck!" |

What do you mean by "no enclosure"? If you have no cabin area to heat, then nothing is going to heat up a boat, only blow a little heat in front of the device, and then dissapate. I use the propane heating grids that go on the tanks, and they do quite well...the disposable tank style is pretty cool, but user beware of heating with flammable materials on a boat...
be careful and good luck! |

you could plumb an automotive heat core into the boats cooling system assuming it is raw water cooled......do a google search I have seen them. |

No - the car heater will work just fine. You can tapp off the hot water from the engine block and return it to the raw water intake hose. this will keep constant hot water through the heater block. Put it in a wooden/aluminium box and place a 12v DC fan to blow cold air over the matrix - sit back and enjoy the hot air out the other side. _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |
