Cameraboy did I miss something? Gas in my state didn't hit $3.00/gallon nor did it average $3.00/gallon in your state or in the United States. See AAA website. Furthermore the bet endend Sept 1st. Finally when it became impossible for you to pay your side of the bet it became null and void.
Facts aside, I can't believe such a kind hearted soul such as yourself would attempt to capitalize on the largest natural disaster this country has ever had.
Unless that Malibu is picking up stranded people in New Orleans you won't ever see one thin dime of mine. Of course you can always volunteer that cottage of yours or part of your house to help out.

Hockeyplayer,
The only reason gas prices shot up temporarily is because of the hurricane. The price increase had/has nothing to do with normal anticipated economic factors which is what the bet was predicated on, not "Acts of God." In Seattle, the price never hit $3.00/gallon.
That is the basis of the comment, without the hurricane, prices would not have increased so dramitically. I sent my money to fill up boats in N.O. |

The problem with AAA is that they are not one voice.
Each region has different reports.
Here's what I found on CNN at this time:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/09/02/katrina.travel.ap/index.html
| Quote: | | An AAA nationwide survey conducted before Hurricane Katrina indicated a slight increase in Labor Day weekend travel despite what were then record-high gas prices. The disruptions caused by the hurricane have pushed gas prices above $3 per gallon across much of the country, creating even greater uncertainty about motorists' holiday driving plans. |

No way, we called a truce. If I break it, it costs me $5.00.
I sent the $120.00 to the American Red Cross for the Hurricane relief. Cameraboy should be getting the gift reciept in the mail shortly.
He didn't win, and I can't win. So I chose to settle it by helping those who can certainly use it one helluva lot more than either Cameraboy or myself.
This is in CB's neighborhood and in mine it's $2.93/gallon. Tomorrow morning it'll be less. In 06 it'll be less than $2.00/gallon again. As long as we maintain our friendship to those in the Great White North. Eh, MM? |

ontrider,
Doesn't Canada have more oil than Saudi Arabi? From what I read, we could satisfy all our import requirements for the next 45 years with what Canada plans to export. _________________ I hope the weather is calm as you sail up your heavenly stream |

lcap, I'm not sure about that... Alberta is the oil rich region, but the prices are higher here because it's taxed more heavily than in the US. I do think in a year or so the stuff will get back to 'normal' prices as you said. I guess around 80cents/L here or so... possibly lower, but who knows eh!?
Here's a cool link for price comparisons - http://www.torontogasprices.com/retail_price_chart.aspx
DunDunDun, every third tank? What is it an A6 4.2 or something? |

Ours is all over the board - $3.19 here, just up the street $3.76....the only marina on the Severn ran out I guess on Saturday....I'm sure it's temporary
I hope everyone here in the states realizes we really ought not be complaining when compared to our friends across the sea...

Lcap,
Yea, that's what I thought. You lost. Pay up.
The bet was that gas prices would hit 3 bucks a gallon national average for 87 octane by the end of the summer, which is September 21st.
Pay up. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

If disruption of oil supply nullified the bet, that should have been stated as a condition of the bet.
When they took away the star rating, nobody posted that the bet was nullified.
You threw out a bet by your own admission to get someone to shut up. It bit you in the a$$ and you should man up and send the cash.
CB said If he won he would use the the money he saved for that fill up to buy something from the advertisers on this board. He should change his mind and send his winnings to the salvation army.
"It means:
Gasoline will not go over $3.00/gallon this summer, anywhere
Cameraboy can turn the heat up in his cottage and buy the toys as planned.
Everyone can stop the knee jerk panic
I won't be sending Cameraboy and $
And finally it means:
Cameraboy owes me a star for the bet! Pay up"
"oshensurfer,
"It's for the summer and it's for Regular Unleaded."
"Thought it would be an easy way to shut you up. Apparently not, oh wait I forgot you've been elevated to Woodhead status. No winning--just whinning.
Oh did you hear, gas going to hit $4.00/gallon this summer--so says NPR. It has to be true. Laughing Gonna stop buying groceries so I have enough $ to put gas in my car.
Mr. Logical buying into such b.s. Little more thought before flying off the handle please.
I wouldn't have made the bet if I thought there was a snowballs chance in hell I'd have to pay up."
"
Hey now, I know CB has a public but he doesn't need any help...or reminding on this one. And it is US Gas in US Dollars sold at US Gas Stations for US Regular Unleaded." |

1. Acts of God nulify every single solitary contract I have ever known. Plane deliveries, construction contracts, real estate transactions, material purchases, etc., etc., etc., etc.
2. You read a few of the posts yet omitted the details, your state or mine.. Mine never did hit $3.00/gallon
3. If I place a bet in Vegas on who will win a fight and one of the fighters doesn't show up, I don't have to call and cancel the bet. It is automatically void. A bet is a contract. When it becomes impossible to satisfy the terms, it becomes void. Besides that was during CB's hiatus. |

Ha hahhahahaha! I should have expected this from you, Skipper!
The bet was for a national average.
You lost, and because you are a small man, you can't just admit it.
Ok, I'll send the money to whatever charity you want, and my company will match it. Come on, be a man for once, Skipper!
It's no big deal, just admit you lost! ARe you really that small and insecure? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

1. How can an act of god nullify a bet based on the price of a product that has its price set by supply and demand? An act of god can deplete supply, or ramp up demand. This just happened to be an extreme case. This storm has not nullified the contracts regarding the supply of gasoline to distributers.
2. Based on cb's profile, he is from webster, NY.
The closest city with a gas price rating on AAA is rochester, which is at 3.14 per gallon.
All metro areas in new york are over 3.00.
3. Yes, it was not possible for him to pay up had he lost. I guess he will have to content himself with knowing he won on principle.
On the flip side, I beleive that should you have turned out to be right, the people on this board would have come up with an equally demeaning way for him to fulfill his obligation such as an admission of your victory as his personal quote. |

wow "bastards" that's pretty harsh
Maybe if the retards out east didn't vote a liberal government in every election their gas tax would be less?
I only paid 85 cents a litre for my Deisel on Friday. I think that's around 2.85 U.S. per gallon.
I guess we can always think of the people out east when we get our natural gas rebate in the winter time as well. |

We don't have more oil than the Saudi's. We do have I think the 2nd or third largest amount in reserves though. The area is the Tar sands in Northern Alberta but it's pretty expensive to extract. $70 dollar crude works for them though. |
