I was surprised to hear that people do rolls off a shorter rope to learn, is this right?
I guess the w/w distance would be less. |

i ride at 65 ft and at 22 mph. I can land plenty of inverts consistently. ive never ridden with a shorter length than this but i have ridden with a longer lenght. if you go longer rope and slightly faster you will have more hangtime and more time to throw inverts n stuff. just something i do behind other boats _________________ Pain is weakness leaving the body! |

| imo its a bad habit to get into. if you can get up the balls and just do it at your normal length. Thats what ive always done. But everyone has there own way of doing things so go for it if you want. |

55ft-65ft is a good range to learn new stuff, then let it out 5ft here and there once you master the tricks. balls or no balls, the falls at a slower speed and shorter rope feel better than a fall at a faster speed and longer rope.
definitely not a bad habit, but more of an advantage to progression. if you want to ride longer and faster once you get those inverts dialed in, all you have to do is increase your progressive edge into the wake (depending on the trick). this could all be subjective though since alot of people are one track minded. |

| natxbrotha, are you really going to notice one or two mph difference when you fall? also if you slow down you would have to take almost the same edge as at a longer line because you are going slower thus widening the wake. from my experience things move slower the longer you are out so you can fell where you are in the air better and you have more air time to get things around. when you start trying bigger tricks later on you are not gonna be able to bring in the lind cuz you need the extra pop. i just think its a bad habit and havent heard any legit reasons for doing it. |

of course theres a difference, it may not be substantial like falling at 24mph and falling at 15mph, but you can feel it. put your speed at 23mph, and take a nice fall, then put your speed down to 19mph, and try and take the same fall... it all comes down to science. the wake really doesnt increase horizontally in size, but the wake can get a little bigger, but not as hard as it would be going at 24mph. this is how they teach at some ski schools from what an instructor and some people have told me.
as for bigger tricks, you can get the same amount of air riding shorter and slower if you have good technique. this is all theory though, so try it if you want to, sorry to sound like i pressure people into doing this, but it works, and thats it. |

| doing it shorter is dumb. learn it one way...and one way only. don't be a girl about it...just throw the trick at normal length and if you fall, just get up. either way, you are probably going to fall. |

its not theory, its you pulling random words out of your ass.
First off the slower you go the wider the wake gets i don't know who has told you otherwise. secondly if you take of 5-10 ft you are not going to drop your speed that much to where you notice a difference when falling. those are facts. speed is really relative. i can go 25 on a wakeboard but 19 feels fast on a skate, also the longer your line the slower the boat speed feels. |
