|

Hello Waketeers,
Just this summer i had my eyes opened to the wide world of wake boarding. I used to slalom ski alot but now that is just boring compared to wakeboarding. But to make a long story short i need a wake boarding boat. A wake boarding boat on a budget. So i am looking for just a boat that i can convert. But what i really need to know is what do i need to look for? What kinda horsepower should i look for? Any engine types better than others? The whole nine yards any detail that could make a wake boarding boat different than a normal boat. I would also like to avoid spending 2 grand on a tower.
Any help would be great,

look for inboard and if you dont wanna spend money on a twoer get a pylon, to make it a wakeboard boat all you need is a tower(or pylon) and some weight, fat sacs, lead, sandbag, fat poeple, anything. _________________ La Jolla kicks a$$, its the best place in the world |

jedama1210 pretty much sums it all up. You should also look at the length of the boat. Personally, I wouldnt get anything less than 17 or 18'. If you have extra money to spend, get yourself a tower but pylons will do if you are on a tighter budget. _________________ -Randy

yes yes that is good info but what about horse power how much would i need for a good wake or at least the ability to weight the boat down to get a good wake? _________________ Cool kids never have the time.

| I have 190hp and I get up okay, depending on weight distribution. I had one 200# sac in the rear and 8 heavy dudes in the boat and it did okay. Of course I want more power though to plane out quicker. My old 100hp worked okay, but I never loaded that thing down. |

i ride behind 340 horsepower (friends super air) and it does fine with almost 3000 lbs of ballast (tested on a different super air, 2002 to be exact) so i think anywhere from 150 up im guessing should be fine to wakeboard behind, anything less and it may take a little time to plane out, i could be totally off seeing as ive never gone behind less than probablly 200 hoursepower _________________ La Jolla kicks a$$, its the best place in the world |

forgot to add this, it also totally depends on how many weighting devices you put in and how many people you take out _________________ La Jolla kicks a$$, its the best place in the world |

| i use to board behing a 120hp with a 550# fatsack and one person in it, did a pretty good job as far as outboard. i now have i/o and if i could do it again i would spend you money on an older inboard that you can really work with the wake, as to have a newer, nicer i/o that will have it's smaller limitations on the wake. like they said, all depends what you put in it!! |

| If you don't want to spend 2 g's on a tower, and you don't want all the ropes and stuff from a pylon. You should get one of those monkey bars. They are like a tower, but with one rope to the front like a pylon. And you can get one on Ebay for around $400. |

on that whole monkey bar idea is it illegal, well maybe not illegal but safe, to just make your own is there a site that has plans for towers and such because i have a knack for hoboing a way out of buying stuff _________________ Cool kids never have the time.
