|
|
Like any other industry, I'm assuming there are key differences/preferences between all the different board manufactures. Can somebody break these down? Which is better for pop, speed, handling, etc?
I'm fairly new and am trying to figure out which board is best for me. I've mainly been learning on a buddy's Hyperllite Motive 144. This board was great to learn the basics but I'm ready to progress. I recently got to try out a LF Substance 142. The board handled like it was on rails. It was also way faster than the Motive. I feel like I went from a big ole Buick to a Honda S2000.
Any input?
If it matters, here is some info about me. I'm a big boy, 5' 11", 220lbs. I'm stocky but pretty athletic. I want a board that has good handling, speed and pop, but don't want to sacrifice landing and softness.
Thanks in advance! |

put all your stats in this and it should produce a fairly decent match fo you, although try to demo as many boards as possible to find a perfect match instead of just a computer.

| The majority of board companies (Hyperlite, LF, Gatorboards) all make a wide variety of boards that offer differences in pop, speed, feel, ect. Just demo as many boards as possible. |

I already gave out a star for lamest post of the day to Kewlboarder, but I may have to give out a second for this gem of a post.
Contrary to popular belief the company name has nothing to do with hydrodynamics and the way a board rides. They way a board feels on the water is entirely due to shape (go figure!). Now all companies, HL, LF, GB, CWB, Etc. make a variety of boards in a variety of shapes and sizes. It up to you to determine they type of ride you prefer, and then shop for a board that has the characteristics of they type of ride you want. _________________

Whats better ford or chevy?
the answer, whatever you like/own. Each company makes a solid product or else they wouldn't be in business and all make comparable boards. just try as many as you can and find the one that fits you. |

gatorboards are rider own and thats always a plus. hyperlite is owned by kent sporting goods which is a camping company and makes tents and coolers. _________________ aye |

Mr. Top Hat True they are rider owned, but business wise they are just the same. IE they both have a multi-million dollar parent, putting up the cash. In HL case it is a business parent, in GBs case it is a paternal parent.
Not to take anything away from either, but the fact remains none* of these companies would get by without a deep pocket to dig into, it's all a matter of whose pocket that is. This industry just isn't profitable.
*speaking of the big names here, I know there are a few small guys out there doing it for the love. _________________
