On their first try? Im hopefully going out for the first time this weekend, and i cant wait. I just want to have some pointers to follow. Also, i hear people talking about not being able to go W2W without one of those bars. If i dont have one, can i still jump?

BlueHyperLite, Getting up should only be your concern... Just let the boat pull you over, and stand up... Its hard to explain... As for not having a tower... They are overrated slim. You can get pretty sick without one your first season.

the best way to get up is point your toes foreward and let the boat do all the work.

I get air w/out a tower

ooo i duno bout that..as for pointin your toes forward that is. The main thing to remember is to keep your knees bent before the boat takes off, as if your kind of sitting down. Make sure your not too far down so that you'd fall over forward when you start. Just pretend your sitting on the ground, and someone is pulling you up to your feet...its kind of the same concept. Once the boat starts goin and you start plwoin water, try an pull the handle to your hip (which hip depends on what footing you have), and swing your lead foot forward. and cjclark is right when he says let the boat pull you up...dont pull or fight the boat. Make sure to keep the tip of the board in the direction of the boat once you get up. Theres tons of threads of how to get up and all that if this is too confusing.

good luck

i have somethin to add..to the let the boat pull you up thing...i find that its like doing a crunch when i come up....you know..have ur knees bent..and then when the boat starts pullin on u..if you do a crunch it helps..doesn't put much strain on u..idk if that makes sense to u but i told one of my friends it was like doin a crunch and he got up easier after i told him that..he didn't fight w/it as much..good luck and have fun

sit in the water facing the boat and pull your knees up into your chest, wrap your arms around you legs so that your elbows are around the outside of your knee. wait for the boat and dont try and physically pull yourself out of the water. Also dont have your toeside edge to far under the water. Have fun and enjoy!

or u can sit lik how surfersarah said cept hold it so the tow rope is goin between yer knees, that makes it easier when your switchin your board forward when your getting up rather then getting cought up an tangled in yer own arms Razz

keep it real

It's funny, I've taught a few of my friends and invariably, each one does something different which makes it hard for them. If your having trouble, the best thing is to have someone who knows what they're doing watch you and give individual advice. Of course, if you can't have that, that's a great video Smile

but how fast should the boat take off? I've been doing this for a few years now and it wasn't up until a couple of weeks ago when i bought a video ( waketrix) i think its called that i noticed these guys were just "nice and easy" getting out of the water, looked as if there was no strain at all. the people that alway pulled me would just , be like, "say go" and then vrooom it like they were pulling a person on one ski out of the water. i had the handle yanked from my hands and it smacked my little sister in the forehead and gave her a huge gooseegg, and then i couldn't even hold on to the rope for the next two days. it sucked balls.

well, That's one thing about a wakeboard, you have a lot more surface area than a ski does, so you can accelerate slow if you want and get right up. A wakeboard planes at around 10 mph, slolom skiing, you'd be dragging through the water until 16-18 mph, all the while slowing the boat down. So you get two advantages on a wakeboard, you definitely don't need to gun it too hard to get a wakeboarder up... unless you want to Razz

wow. that isnt how i get up. as soon as the boat starts going, i imagine im riding my skateboard (or snowboard) over a roller, and apply pressure on my back foot.

the best way to explain it is to sit down on your but and put your feet on the ground while your knees are pointing up. let your friend grab your hand and pull you up. except on a wakeboard wait untill your heels are touching your butt and your weight is over your legs, then it's smooth sailing bro..

shows a real good example on dentention vol.1 with shawn murray.
also dont force your self , guys have way to much eago on the line ,, just relax and let the boat pull u up.

One thing that I discovered that helps me is once the slack is outta the rope have the boat in gear and as it creeps forward point your front foot just above 3 o'clock then have the boat "GO" this way i have gotten up every time and last weekend was just my second time going.
My GF however who is 25 LBs lighter (yes I'm a light weight) comes up with the board completely sideways and then turns the board to point at the boat once she is standing.
How hard you have to accelerate also depends on the boat. We pull with a 19.6' Maxum with a 125 OB. It takes full throttle to get up behind it but other more powerful boats will take less. I've also found that for me (read NOOB) 15-16 MPH if its rough, up to 20 MPH if its smooth
