And I do not mean planing for a split second and then face planting. But rather getting in some kind of a ride. _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

I tried unsuccessfully when I was like 12 to get up three times in a row. I didn't try it again until i was about 16, and then I got up on my first try.
So, 4 total, even though there was a ~4 year time lapse in between me failing and succeeding.

A $*** load. I taught myself. I had no idea what I was doing or what the driver should be doing. Luckily I have some very patient parents! _________________ Why Vegan? |

I was 5 years old... my dad taught me how to get up on the shore by pulling the rope by hand... and then it took 4 times behind the boat... he says. I had to ask him because I don't remember.

It took me a lot of times because I had no idea what to do and neither did anyone I knew.....but then we had somebody come with us who wakeboarded before and he showed me and after about 7 tries I got it......I think i must be a slow learner or something because nobody else I know took as long as me.......but now I'm way better than all my friends because I ride way more, it just goes to show that everything takes practice _________________ |

well i got up my first time of course cause im just a stone cold badass... i was teaching someone last weekend and they got up and tried to balance their weight evenly between feet and control the board with their knees.... and then he does a 1/2 second butterslide in dead center of the wake and SMACKS face first... like hard dude you could hear it loud _________________ Hyperlite 2005 Premier DNA 141 (props to harf) |

Got up first try... felt a bit off balance, but managed to land a wake to wake jump too... tried a toeside 180 but face planted pretty good
I think it helped a lot being able to go out on a wakeboat w/people who knew what they were doing |

| It took me so many tries there isn't even an option on the poll for me. I think I tried getting up on four different occaissions (each with multiple attempts), before I finally got up. |

| Took me 3 tries. I was 14 and was and still am the only wakeboarder on my lake, and I had only seen wakeboarding once on tv so I had an idea what should happen. Fell on the second set of boat waves. |

I was 23 years old the first time I ever saw anyone even wakeboard... Got up my second try same session and rode around the lake like a Wally for 10 minutes or so with a smile from ear to ear.
I've been a wake junkie to this day.....
I'm officially better than the guys that showed me the light way back in tha day. Just being able to say that puts a smile on my face, cuz they can ride. Some of them don't like that too much and a few others from the original crew just don't ride anymore.
I remember the first time I rode with them after a year or so of riding on my own up at camp. I waited my turn on the food chain (new guy = bottom) and got all kinds of words of encouragement. "Ok, go right at it, don't worry the wake ain't that big, remember X, remember Y".... Me. "yup, I'm good." I proceeded to bust out a great run, HS and TS 360's and my new HS backroll, the only tricks I knew at the time. The look on some of those guys faces when I got back in the boat was priceless... I got nothing but "good run". It was at that point I realized I had just moved up on the food chain and sure enough I ride with two of those guys to this date on a daily basis and the others just faded away _________________ PEACE

I got up the first try and rode around for like 5 minutes. I fell going into the wake TS. Of course it probably helped that I grew up on the water (every weekend was spent at my families lakehouse) but I had never been on a board before. Now I can't remember the last time I was on ski's.
russell21, then you must really suck, and you're probably still trying to get up. Some people just don't get the whole fact that you don't have to fight it and it is a very natural motion to get out of the water. |

I do...
I just got The Book, Higher Education, Waketrix, and Detention instructional videos.
About a month ago I had two friends with no previous board sport experience watch the “getting up” chapter of each video twice. They both got up and started making turns inside the wake on their very first attempt.
I started this thread to see how unusual this was.
Edited: Another on the first try this weekend. Thank makes it 3 for 3 who watched the videos. _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page.

| Am I the only one who watched a wb video before attempting to get up? It's so easy when you get the right information, I got up on the first try. My husband got up on the sixth, hahahaha.... |
