The rougher the water the harder it is to get a good progressive edge unless you can ride in those conditions. Other than that practice.

Just rely on the edge of your board not your fins. Lean back and put pressure on your heels go into the wake hard and build your line tension then once you get to the wake stand tall and you will get a lot of pop.

Uhh if you have molded and only ride without fins, put the fins in on choppy days. Use a lot of pressure on your back foot and keep your knees slightly bent to help you over the chop.

The Book dvd's had a good exercise for learning to edge.
Cut out toeside as far as you can, relax and flatten out the board. Look back across the wake and start cutting in. stay on a straight line, absorb the wake with your knees and stay on a straight line all the way over the wakes and as far out as you can go. turn back and repeat toeside.

If you come off of your edge or flatten the board out at any point, you need to start over and take an easier edge in.

to get a good progressive edge you have to cut in hard. when you are cutting in sit your butt down like your in a chair. that is what makes you cut better and get more pop off the wake. and really lean into your carves.

Here is a simple trick that I used to get the right feel.

Step1 : Cut toward the wake by leaning back only.
Keep your toes pointed. (ie not pulled toward your knees)

Step2: Just before the wave pull your toes towards your knees.
Do it gradually but steadly until you are in the air.
(ie do not get your calves locked until you are in the air)

This will get you the feel of the difference of being on the rope (progressive edge) and off edge (crappy edge).

Once you get the feel, you can combine your steady increase in tension by increasing ...
- 1 speed at which you pull you toes up
- 2 speed at which you increase your shoulder lean back
- 3 optional seating action and leg extension thru the top of the wave
Remembering that you cannot complete any of these before you are in the air, as it will cause you to flatten off, and come off the rope.

Hope this helps.

The trick I learned that works for me is to not concentrate on edging progressivly but to concentrate on loading the line. So basicly try to keep pulling harder on the handle without pulling yourself up. Think like you're sitting in a chair; dont let the rope pull you out if that chair.
