I'm just wondering if im doing this right.

1) Start from inside the wake - ?
2) Get onto the edge of the wake.
3) Once your on the edge start turning your board 90 degrees.
4) Lean Back?...

Just wondering, how far do I lean back while trying to butterslide, im a noob and I tried it about 3 times and I keep doing faceplants because the toeside clips the water. So, whats a good distance to lean back on? And is it easier to butterslide when your inside the wake already or outside?

Thanks, Smile.

Let's start with a simple boardslide....You should learn how to do that first....
Speed the boat up to about 14 -15 MPH...and turn the board to slide it....Make sure that you can do this, and keep increasing the boat speed and working on this up to your normal riding speed.

Once you can do this, follow these steps to do a butterslide:
1.) it is easiest to start outside the wake, usually with the toeside edge coming into the wake. Ease up the wake to the top of the wake.
2.) At the top of the wake, kick your back foot around to turn the board to a 90 degree angle like you said....This is where you should be doing the basic board slide. The only real difference is that you are on the peak of the wake.
3.) Once you are sliding the peak of the wake keep shifting your weight to stay on the peak....It is kind of hard to do at first, but you will learn to do it longer each time that you do it.

Hope this helps

MrBoardman, ur talking about a lipslide not a butterslide. a butterslide is when you are inside/outside out the wake and just turn the board 90degrees and slide along.

Yeah I'd recommend trying it first right behind the boat at fairly slower speed (approx 15mph) until you get the hang of it. If you ride regular (left foot fwd) start by bending your knees, then move the handle across to the right and you'll slide the board around. If you ride goofy (right foot fwd), then you'll move the handle to the left. (I hope I remember that right, if that doesn't work and you start sliding around the wrong way reverse what I said haha) Balance your weight on the board and lean back some against the rope. If your weight is shifted left or right you will start moving in the direction with the most weight over it. Then once you have the feel for sliding down, follow the above steps and take it to the lip of the wake. Or from the slide instead of returning to normal position do a 180 and try switch riding. Lord knows I need to practice that more myself!

Hope that helps...good luck!

marcuskg, a butterslide is the same thing as a lipslide.

I think its easier to butterslide starting from outside of the wake. Take a real slow cut into the wake and once you get to the crest of the wake bring the board perpendicular to the boat and lean back slightly. When you start to come off the crest get your board back straight in the direction you need to go or you'll faceplant pretty hard. It is easier if you slow the boat down a little but it's not really necessary.

marcuskg, i only do backside lipslides cuz i got tired of face planting if there was some chop coming into my wake. i just approach the wake and pretend like i'm going to edge out real hard and just lean way forward (away from the boat.) its easier than a fs IMO.

Wakebrad,

going slower is definately necessary if you're catching edges alot. The water isn't as hard on the face or back o'the head at those lower speeds...

And with more drag you'll get a good workout!
