My dad is interested in building a tower for our 19' I/O. He is wondering if using cold rolled 1 3/4" .095 wall tubing would be to heavy?? This is the same material we use for rollbars for stock cars. (he is an X-racer) We have a MIG welder, have acess to a bender that will work on steel. Any one have any plans they are willing to part with??

Yeah that'd work fine. Only drawback will be protecting against rust. Definately paint or preferably powdercoat the outside. Keep in mind that if you do any drilling for speakers or anything you'll have to worry about rust on the inside as well. Are you trying to just make just any tower or are you wanting to copy another design? I'd browse thru some magazines and see what you like, then maybe photoshop your choice onto a picture of your boat. _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. Thanks, we willl probably paint with rustoleum, so as to avoid the rusting problems. As for tower designs we are looking for something that looks fast, and looks cool so we may end up putting 2-3 ideas into our tower.
