last year I was able to nail ts fs 5's fairly easy this year no dice. i used to throw them low but clean not much pop. this year I have been trying to take them bigger by taking my rope out 75 ft but have lost the ability to spin them on axis last year I hit them and spun straight legged do you think that if i pull my knees to my chest it will help my axis on the spin?

its possible you are starting your spin to early. with a shorter rope you can spin earlier and quicker than with a longer rope. you need to wait til you are about half way across to really start the spinning. you can initiate the first 180 on your way up. spinning late will keep you on axis. the reason for this is on the way down the line tension on the rope is less than on the way up. think about it, spinning on the way up your line tension is very high and you get yanked toward the boat, then on the way down you cant really compensate for you being that off axis until you really learn how to control it. does this make sense?

what helped me out to land this trick (i landed it the other night. i've said before that i couldn't do a 5, but now i can) was to do switch bs 180's. it helps a lot with the handlepass and for me, it also helped with my balance in the air during the handlepass. then i threw the 360 faster, and pulled around the 540 pretty clean. thats just my own opinion of what i did.

a switch bs 3 will help with learning the rotation. also doing ts 180s landing crossed up helps because on the 5 you tend to push the handle to your new front hip on the last 180.

a few weeks ago when i was trying to grab my ts 5's i was having the same problem as you and getting a little off axis. i started doing them the normal way again and it fixed it... but im not able to grab it yet.

think of it this way... if you try to do your 5 early, you really have to compensate for the line tension and the pull of the boat. so that means you would have to lean further away from the boat and the bottom of your board should be facing the boat more so than normal...
