Recently I have been having this pretty bad ache in my lower elbow of my left arm (lead arm). I'm pretty sure its from landing tantrums because thats the only trick I land one-handed on , unless I dont get my grab hand back in time of course. This causes alot of strain on my arm and it hurts like a mofo. My dad says its called Epi-something , and its like tennis elbow , just in another tendon. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem and what they did for it. peace out.

It may also be something similar to an injury you get from lifting weights. It happens to a lot of people who workout their biceps more than any other arm muscle. What happens is the biceps get stronger than the forearm muscles and actually causes the tendons or muscles to tear away from the bone in the upper forearm. To help reduce the problem, you need to strengthen the forearm muscles. Get a tennis ball and squeeze it in your palm when you are sitting around your house or hanging out. It should help strengthen up the forearm muscles....or you could actually get some dumbbells and do some forearm exercises.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and the above information was obtained from a few different personal trainers I spoke to about the problem.

I get it all the time. Just take a couple ibuprofens before you go out, or hit the gym as hard as you can with consistent and effective workouts.

It is similar to tennis elbow . You need to stop choking your chicken and learn to become ambidextrous j/k Laughing Laughing
Work on strengthening/stretching the muscles above and below the elbow. I'm not talking using a lot of weight either. Icing afterwards helps too.

anything ending it itis simply means some sort of inflamation. just ice it down to bring down the swelling, and heat it to help the heeling, take like 5 advil before you ride and you'll be fine

do not take ibeprofun at all because it thins the blood and just makes the swelling worse

ice it ice it ice it gretest thing

now for biofreeze that is not used for this and it is in a spray bottle, biofreeze just numbs the spot u spray it on instantly and just lets you strech it farther with out pain or anything but it's numb so you can not lift weights....etc....
bio freeze is not the right thing + its like 15 dollars a can

what about some sort of anti-inflamatory med like celebrex? And as far as ibuprofen goes , there is no swelling , and thats what seems to help short term. I just wanna know how to get rid of this because its really , really effecting my riding. Its like I'm afraid to do stuff because it hurts so damn much. Crying or Very sad

the are two types of epicondilitus, there is medial and lateral, lateral is also know as tennis elbow, medial is also know as golfers elbow. You can reduce the pain by wearing a epicondilitus strap, it's as tight strap that goes around your mid forearm on the medial or lateral side, what it does is change the area where the most force is applied on the muscle, usually it's all on the insertion point but by where the strap the force is applies and absorbed there instead, you could where that to reduce pain for know, but the best thing to do is to ice it down after you ride, hit the gym and ice it down and take a few weeks off

And just what do you think is in the chemical make up of anti-inflammatories?
No reason to take Celebrex, you'll just be wasting your money.

Pretty much any otc pain reliever except for Tylenol is classified as an NSAID (Tylenol in only a pain reliever)

Non
Steroidal
Anti
Inflamitory
Drug

Asprin, Ibuprofen (motrin), Naproxen Sodium (Alieve).

Any of them will help do away with the swelling the exists in your arm. Whenever there is an injury of this type one of the first things that happens is inflamation. It may not be visible but it is there. If you don't get rid of it the body canot get fresh blood into the injured area and therefore cannot heal. Reducing the swelling gets the crap outta the injured area, Heat encourages blood flow into the injured area to allow healing to begin. but also encourages swelling. This is why you ICE first. Once the swelleing is gone then you go to ICE and HEAT always beginning and ending with ICE and finally heat only. Tendons have a poor blood supply so they naturally take a while to heal.
Any over use injury is a bitch to get rid of. I took you a while to get it sore it will take you a while to get it gone.

RICE

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Is the general rule for getting this type of injury to go away.
I run crazy mileage every week and hate to do most of the above.

Here's coming from a nurse I asked- one easy way to fix this problem is to change the way you sleep. If you sleep on your arms you could be making it not so much worse, but slowing the healing process if you've taken the rest of the advice given here in this forum. I was told when you sleep on your arms it restricts blood flow which prevents healing, and also twists the elbow joint. A friend of mine tried it, and said he saw a huge difference almost immediately.

I'll agree with the massage angle also. Of course I'm a licensed massage therapist as well as being an athletic trainer in college. Mr. Green The best form of massage for getting rid of inflamation is to push the fluids in your arm(or any other extremity) towards the center of your body. Your body actually has two circulatory systems. One is the cardiovascular system. The other is the lymphatic system. Your blood is moved through your body by the heart (duh) Rolling Eyes but the Lymphatic system has no such pump. The only way that fluid moves through this system is the movement of muscles in your body acting to squeeze the fluids along or by maunally pushing them along (massage). This is the system (lymphatic) that is responsible for getting rid of swelling. Look at your arm like a garden hose. If its full of water and the other end is plugged no more water (fluid) can enter the system. SO what you need to do is drain the hose. Start near your shoulder and run your hands towards your body, move out towards your hand and start again, repeat until you have covered the whole arm. This also encourages blood flow which helps healing.
Good point about sleeping on your arm. hadn't thought bout that but it makes good sense.
Good call on the BIO Freeze. Its really made for sore muscles and in reality does little for you excppt to mask the pain.
