every 50 hours and at the end and the beginning of every season. This year I won't come close to putting 50 hours on it so I'll just change it when I winterize. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

As Wakebrad, said...Every 50 hours. I change it when I winterize and when I pull it out in the spring.
As far as oil I use a semi-synthetic. Blue Ram 15W40. _________________ Riders Inc. |

For a ski club running 12 hours a day that would mean an oil change every 4 days. Is that realistic? Dont get me wrong but it just seems a very short time.
How does hours on a wake boat compare to miles driving on the road? _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |

| I find it hard to believe that even a ski club could run a boat for 12 hours straight... if you ran it for 12 hours, 4 days in a row... then yes... I would change the oil. |

In that scenario the oil would actually last a lot longer than 50 hours IMO. You would have way fewer heat/cool down cycles, which are what cause moisture, etc. in the oil.
There is no direct equivalent to miles on a car, but I like to consider 50 hours = 3000 miles, because that's the most common oil change interval on both, so I figure it must be close. 50 hours would be 3000 miles in a car driving a constant 60 mph, again pretty consistent.
In a car, they recommend 3000 miles if you use your car for lots of stop and go driving (heat/cool cycles) and 6000 or 7500 if you drive mostly long trips. In my view a boat is the same. If it runs 12 hours a day, I'd personally double the interval since that's like making a 700+ mile trip in a car.
12 hours a day though, whew. |

yea - when I worked in London as a driver we opened at 9am and ran constantly until 9pm. The next riders were queued ready to go before the last rider came in. I guess thats how club boats get 2000 hours on them. _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |

Now I would be happy if I could average 50 minutes a week ! _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |

look at the oil, you can tell when it needs to be changed.
The type of oil you use can effect the change intervals.
full Synthetics can go longer then petroleum based oils.
I cahnge the oil in my truck religiously at 5K miles.
IN the boat about 2-3 times a season, which is about 6 months in CO
I use only Castrol syntec and OEM filters, only because the price of Mobil full synth is too hig compared to the Castrol. |

| The other thing to remember that oil and a filter are cheap, repairing an engine can be expensive. It's much better to error on the side of changing oil alittle early then continually letting it good to long! |

^ my sentiments exactly. That's why my tow vehicle is 12 yrs old with 210K on it. Oil every 3k whether I think it needs it or not. The boat is not nearly that used, but if it works on the truck, might as well continue on the boat. _________________ ________________________________

I called my dealer with that same question because I was due for an oil change (50 hrs), but the boat was in an area where it's difficult to get it out of the lake.
He told me I can go as much as 100 hrs without any problems. I'm now 85 hrs into the season without an oil change, and the oil still looks good. |

LOL!
Pray tell, just what exactly are you seeing that indicates to you that you need to change your oil?
This should be interesting. |
