Ok, so last week I fooked up pertty bad! I was riding behind my friends SN2001 with about 1500lbs of ballast. This was my first time to ride behind one...and let me just say...I have some serious respect for the wake those boats generate.
Well, to make a long story short, I was charging in to do a raley and wasn't use to this kind of wake ( a freaking wall) and I messed up my Raley launch and didn't get high enough, so I was trying to pull my legs down, they came up short and my toe side edge caught and slammed me face down into the water causing me to "scorpion" my body (As my friends described it) were my legs flipped behind me, stretching my chest area and compacting my spine. Well it knocked the air out me, went dizzy, thought I broke my back but my legs still worked, had to be lifted out of the water cause of the pain.
Well, a week later and the pain hasn't subsided one bit. It feels like I have ever-lasting cramps everytime I breath in my chest/back/side area. I thought I might have cracked my sternum or something, but the doctor told me it was pointless to get an X-ray cause even if it was broken, there is nothing that could be done about it. He said he doubts anything was broken cause there was no brusing
Has anyone had this happen before? I think I might have torn something, or just have a bunch of micro tears...who knows, but the pain pills are getting on my nerves cause they don't help much. Should I seek a second opinion or just ask for stronger pain meds and wait a few more weeks?
I know I am done riding for the next 4 weeks...I just want the pain to go away! And yes, I am pissed cause i can't ride.... _________________

one of my fellow teamates wrestling was put in a move that p uthim in a position just like that
i would go see another doctor cause if it's broken my fellow teamate/friend had to wear a bach brace kept him from bending it
if it's not broken then you should b good to ride or might need pysical therapy
not a doctor but he did get a back brace thing when he broke it

Dpierce37, You're MD is an idiot. Go back and get some type of radiographic study so that you can at least rule out a FX . Then that would set you up for further studies if the pain doesn't subside or worsens.
Last time I checked none of the MD's I ever worked with possessed Xray vision and one of the 1st questions out of a Malpractice attorneys mouth is " Did you get an Xray?" _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

well I think I have found what has been bothering me. To recap..I am still feeling pain when breathing, just not as bad as before (whichis a good sign), but I still can't sneeze without whincing in extruciating pain..still hurts to stretch my arms, and after two days of helping my GF move into her new apartment...I about od'ed on the amount of pain pills I took later in the evening (not really, but I took 4 when it said 2) HAHA
well..after having a talk with my GF mom, she said she injured her chest playing raquetball and she described her symptoms and they are EXACTLY what I am going through. Its called Costochondritis (Tietze's syndrome) and here is some info about it:
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/costochondritis.htm
http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/sprainsstrains/a/costochondritis_2.htm
http://www.drmirkin.com/morehealth/G234.html
Just thought I would let yall know incase someone else goes through this ordeal!
DL..yea...my doctor sucks a5s..time for a new one! soo...whats an FX? _________________

Probably just strained everything. Most important thing, do deep breathing exercises every couple of hours. It'll hurt for while but if you don't breathe deep every once in a while you will run the risk of get phnemonia (sp) in a lung. Then you'll really think your life sucks... |

Bambamski, well I was reading some stuff about it, and it says deep breathing would further injure the inflamtion of the tendons so I shouldnt do it!?
I'm sure nothing is broken, but have strained muscles before and it's never hurt this bad for so long. I still have to sleep on my back, and am just now able to lay on my left side for a bit, still cant lay on my right side or stomach without a bunch of pain. _________________

Cracked a rib and probably had condo....coming up short on a backroll. Same symptoms as you....breathing hurt and laughing and sneezing where extruciating.
Your doctor is probably saving you and the health system money. Unless the rib is cracked bad enough to do more tissue damage (ie puncture lung)by being broken, the treatment is the same....supportive paliative care. Sometimes cracked ribs get a brace, but that can decrease circulation and is not defintively better. You should get better and be 'mostly' normal in 4 weeks or so, but you will may have slight pain a little after that. Good luck...at least you are no longer a Nauti virgin! |

FX = Fracture
Intercostal muscles could have been strained/torn as well to cause you to feel like you have costochondritis.
How's your back feeling" Especially in the upper back region?( the area the "rib cage" covers)
It is true that there's not a lot you can do if you have a a fx rib or separation of the cartilage from the rib, you just need to understand that this will probably end up being a lifetime problem.
Sorry for the bad news _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |
