I know there is a thread on a TS 5 farther down, but I have some general questions and some on HS 5s. I can do HS 3s and I could do a TS 3 a month ago. I lost it for a while and just landed my first one in 2 months today. (It was 1 wake) Ill have it back either next week or the week after. I noticed that when I miss the handle on my HS 3s I spin to 5 as I land anyways and today when I was trying 1 wake TS 3s I did a couple 5s but landed on my but and slightly under rotated.
So my question is given my circumstances which 5 do you recommend? Then, how should I go about trying it? 1 wake, w2w, dumper, d up? What are some keys to 5s or things that are different from 3s? (Cut, handle position, etc.)

Not to steal the thread or anything, just add to it. I'm having the same problems as LFADAM. Everytime I go in for my TS 5, I get the full rotation, but am getting pulled over enough to the point where I catch my front edge and eat it. My TS 3 is there, just not huge yet.
LFADAM - Even though I haven't landed it, I've been pulling in the rope 1 notch and slowing the boat down and taking a normal cut and pop into the wake. Try that, because at first when I was doing It at normal speed / distance, I would under-rotate to about 480 degrees, but after pulling it in I was getting all the way around. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

DavidHoff, Ive tried 2 w2w TS 5s (before I lost my TS 3) and the first I slightly under rotated and just skipped out but the second I rotated completely but I had the rope in my back hand (due to the handle pass) and so it pulled me back towards 360 (like a shifty the other way) and during the shifty I caught my front edge on the landing. (Worst fall of my life) I dont remember that from doing it, somebody in the boat told me this.
Once I get that Toe 3 back solid I may start trying them again. I think I can rotate faster TS but I go bigger and more in control HS so I think they would be about equally hard for me |

david's right about pulling the rope in. pull it in 5 or 10 ft and slow the boat down. once you can do all your tricks here, then you can let the rope back out and learn to take them bigger.
ok guys, heres something good to practice for your ts 5: do your w2w ts 180 landing crossed up. you need to initiate the spin with your handle by pushing it to your back hip, dont touch it once you get in the air with your back hand. land with your front hand (regular foot riders, left hand) on the handle. thats the ending position of the ts 5. if you are spinning the 5 all the way but get pulled back to a 3, you really need to start trying to regrab the handle with your front hand (regular foot right hand). you can still land them by pushing the handle across your body, but it will be easier to ride away if you can pass it again... plus passing the handle will help you advance to a 720 a little easier.
for edging you want to think w2w cut. real mellow. whenever you approach the wake try bending your knees just a little more so you can spring off the wake more for this trick and take it straight up. once you are up in the air is when you want to pull the handle in with both hands and look past your front shoulder to initiate the spin. pass the handle, and keep rotating. make sure you keep your eyes up toward the boat or the shoreline to help you stay on axis and stick this trick with the right body position. i was having a problem with them for a while and i started looking up toward the shore and it fixed it. leaning back just a hair more than usual on the ts 5 can also help you stick on axis.
the HS 5 is a little more difficult from what i understand because you are landing on your toe edge. but you can start landing your hs 3's with both hands on the handle. doing really late hs 180's with your front hand on the handle then at the last second grab with your back hand and turn the 180. its like the end of a hs 5. also whenever you initiate your spin you gotta pitch over a little like trying to do a hs front flip, but not that extreme at all! (but you get the idea).
theres numerous things you guys can try and see what works for you. best of luck. |
