Alright... i just put in alot of stuff into my boat. This might be a stupid question, but whatever. I but in two 10' Alpine type S subs each with their own 450 watt alpine mono amps. Then i got four 6 1/2 inch four way pioneer speakers powered by a alpine four channel 800 watt amp. Then two 6x9 four way pioneer speakers powered by another 800 watt two channel alpine amp, but also powering two sony 500 watt tower speakers. I also put in a 60x4 pioneer preimer deck. I then put in two optima batteries. Should i get a new alternator or capasitor or is it cool?

pardon Shocked

I reckon your RMS current draw will be about 60A but I would need the amp model numbers to calculate exactly.

You wont need a C because your batteries will have good regulation especially if they are beside the amps and they will give you more than enough current to drive your set-up however, if your alternator is 55amp you will be putting a slow drain on your batteries and eventually they will drain.

I would be surprised if you will have your set-up against the end stop for long enough for there to be a problem. That is going to be one 'ell of a loud system.

It might be worth putting a switch between the batteries and run your amps off the isolatable one. That way if you are chillin and you flatten the isolated battery you still have a battery good to start your engine

good luck

With that much juice I'd certainly recommend a new alternator. I had a local shop around here quote me a 120 amp alternator for $120.

my rule of thumb is always go with dual batteries and a switch -- the cost/ benefit far outweigh the possible down side -- getting towed in.
