I don't think you will be able to email much raw footage, that would clog your email account REALLY fast wouldn't it?

raw footage is huge! i sent a 10 sec clip to a friend....45mb!

gavin, in no way is jumalian making it so no one would send you footage. You alienated yourself with the whole "...you understand that?" phrase. Besides, if you start editing with compressed footage, your end product will look like crap. Also, why would any of us wanna go out of our way to spend the time compressing stuff just to send it to you...ESPECIALLY after the 'you understand that?' comment. If you would have left it, with a 'then don't post' comment, you would have been alright, but you took it to the next level.

gavin, you realize too that if people send you compressed footage and you edit it, then compress your movie it's going to look like crap. You may run into issues as well if people send you stuff compressed in various compression formats.

Your best bet probably if someone was nice, would be to setup an ftp and transfer the stuff, or have them mail you a couple cd's.

gavin, I'm not trying to be a jackass right now...seriously. The footage doesn't look any different playing in a small screen/window on your comp, but look at raw footage that you have, and look at the compressed in the same size window and you will notice a difference. If you don't notice it now you definitely will when you edit stuff together.

Man this has got to be the best sequence of posts ever!! Jumalian you are my hero and i respect your skills to edit. gavin you are a wanker, take it for what it is, my opinion. You need to work on being creative and making your own films. Editing is about being creative and doing something no one has seen before. Asking for footage is probably the gayest thing I've ever heard of. Get out there and be a part of the process. Trsut me, when you make your own production from start to finish you will make a better product. Getting input from the riders is alwaays good. Good night, I'm going filming early tomorrow.

Well seeing as this has got everyone's attention and this thread is pretty much dead I have a few quick questions to ask regarding wakeboarding footage::

-Over last summer (in AUS) we shot a few hours of wakeboarding footage with a miniDV camera but even though we got over the shaky footage and started to learn to film properly the biggest problem was the light/dark and getting the contrast right... We got some really good stuff on tape, problem is its all not that pleasing to the eye. Is there really no alternative to fliming dusk/dawn or is there some trick... even when we did film at night we had the problem of the sun on the horizon and then the darkness that followed...
-Also now we have a new computer thats nice and fast and compatible and has a burner etc.. what kind of software should I use to edit my raw footage and turn it into something nice..?? anything that is by any change free or downloadable?
-Thirdly, Free4All has awesome colours in it.. I assume due to digital editing.. any ideas on how to reproduce this?

i think free4all has awesome colors because it was filmed with a film camera, not a plain old digital camera. in boombox they have bonus footage of the same day, one angle shot with a digital camera and the other with a film camera and the film camera is a 100 times better looking
