OK, I know how I do it, but I am looking for other ways to get up for my dad. He has a bad back (will need to get 5 vertebrae fused eventualy) and has 2 torn rotator cuffs so skiing and wakeboarding are out, but surfing is possible as it is low impact. Plus he used to surf in the 60's. I am looking for other ways people get up on the board as maybe there is an easier less abusive on the body way than what I do (which to me is no problem but would most likely kill him).

What we do is sit our heels on the board where we want our feet to end up. when the driver puts a little tension on the rope we push our heels down which pins the board to our feet, then get up like a wakeboard and just lean/cut out until the boat is up to speed. It does put some pressure on the arms and back and this is my concern.

Thanks for any help as I can see pops is dying to get out and try this!

That's how we generally get up as well. You could try to position your feet first, then push the board under the water so you are standing on the board with it under the water. Kinda tricky to balance the board underneath you, but if you can do it, you will pop right to the surface almost as soon as the boat starts moving. Dock starting is an option as well if you can get everything positioned correctly.

I've seen people start standing on the board with the nose of the board on the swim platform. They then somehow walk the board off the platform. Never tried it myself, so no idea on how hard/easy it might be.

Gonna try to get my dad up on the surfboard this weekend as well. Although for him, I think it's more talking him into doing it than anything else. There's a little fear left in him from his first (and only) attempt to wakeboard. Didn't like that face plant very much apparently.

I just started doing it off the swim platform. Its super easy! Just put enough of the board on the platform so your front foot is over the swim platform and the rest of the board hanging off. When you speed up, just lean back a little bit and your off! I even take it a step further and when Im done, I just tell the driver to stop and as they decellerate, I put the nose on the platform and hop on the boat without getting wet!

Have you tried to pull off the tower . My dad has bad knees and this method is extremely easy for him. He is LARGE 285 pounds. Rides a 5'10" Shredd Stixx.

He has to be pulled up harder " faster" than everyone else. The faster pull puts less strain on his back, "bad"shoulders and knees. Otherwise the rest is the same board flat, heels on board, etc. Because the board really needs to be bigger or thicker he has to start more in the center of the board. To stay in the wake after letting go of the rope as you can see from the picture he has to ride almost on the nose. Hope this helps.
