|
|
hey guys
i have never used a fake-a-lake before and i have a few questions
Boat- 03 Supra Launch SSV
There are 3 holes on the bottom of the boat.. What one is the impeller?
One hole has a water wheel and the other 2 have Metal covers with slits in it
Is it ok to put into gear while its hooked up?
Should water spit out anywhere else besides where the fake a lake is hooked up? |

Paddle Wheel is your perfect pass, the other two should be a ballast intake and a raw water intake. You need to look at your motor and follow the raw water line back to the proper hole. I would suggest just pulling the raw water line from inside the boat and clamping it to the hose. Cheaper and just as effective. Also, do not put the boat in gear out of the water. The shaft seals require water for lubrication and you will destroy the seal and probably score the driveshaft. The only place you should see water coming out is from the exhaust.

Yeah, you want the water to go in to the engine, not the ballast (at least I think that's what you are trying to do). _________________ PS- this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

I also have a 2003 Supra SSV and use the fake-a-lake. Just used it last weekend to warm the engine and change the oil. If you are standing behind the boat, facing the boat of course, you put the plunger end of the fake-a-lake over the LEFT (PORT) intake (metal cover with slits), the one on the right (starboard) is for the ballast. Once you turn your hose on you will see water coming out of the fake-a-lake. Once you crank the engine you should see water coming out of the exhaust after about 5 seconds. I do not put the boat in gear, but I do put it in neutral and get the RPM's up to warm the engine a bit faster. Maybe 2-3K RPMs max.
Important: If you do not see water coming out of the exhaust shortly after you start the engine, something is not right and you should stop the engine.
Also, I turn my water faucet on full blast. You need some decent water pressure to it. |

Raider,
If you have a dripless packing gland (more and more Vdrives are getting them at the factory) you will also see water coming out from around the driveshaft.

Mike,
I don't know what DRIPLESS PACKING GLAND, if any, Supra is offering in their V-drives. But I am 100% SURE that the dripless packing gland offered in the late model Nautique Super Sports and Super Airs taps water from the raw water supply and drives it back to lubricate the the shaft where it passes through a special "stuffing box". This is optional equipment, not the norm. However, it is growing in popularity because it does not require ever tightening a nut on a packing rope or replacing a packing rope. I am not talking about the more common wax rope stuffing box, only the dripless packing gland that is currently growing popularity among v-drives where adjusting the stuffing box is more cumbersome.
Raider, when you determine which inlet is your raw water (sounds like J Trip has provided good direction there) if you see water coming out of your stuffing box on the underside, don't be alarmed...you have a $300 option installed on your boat and all the stuffing box maintenance that people talk about need not concern you.
Good luck,
The FNG |

| A common place for the supply line to the dripless packing system is off an exhaust riser. |
