I've been trying these for the last few days and I keep having the same rpoblem. I'm sooooooo close to landing one!!! Every time I get the rotation down and land w/o catching an edge but I land and the board slips out from under me. Like I lanr TS switch and then the board falls out and I skip across the water in bellyflop position. It doesn't hurt so I dont mind screwing up but I reeeealy want to land it!!! Its my first real trick other than having all grabs solid so this should be a good start.

Also, after I get it what would be a good idea for a trick to start working on?

are you comfortable riding switch? My sister has the same problem landing a HS FS 180 because she is so unstable when riding switch. If this is the case then I suggest getting up switch and riding around for a while to develop some balance. And when you get said balance, try a switch toeside jump and see how you land. Take that knowledge to how you land your HS FS 180's.

If you are already comfortable switch then it sounds like you are leaning too far over the board when you land since you said you are falling onto your stomach?
Make sure you are pulling the handle to your back hip after you get the pop to start the rotation.

Good luck!

I am comfortable riding switch.

Could it be because I dont have a nonstrech line (yet). I hope that will help. I am gonna use it tomorrow so I'll try it again but I think I might need to edge harder on the landing.

I'd love to but the whole darkness thing kinda turns me off from riding in one of the most busy waterways on the east coast at night.

You fall over your toes? Or slide out on your butt? I always slide out on my butt because I dont get on my toes enough. If you fall over your toes, maybe your throwing it with your body instead of just pulling the handle to your other hip. Or your throwing it too early. BTW, the non stretch rope will make you twice as good instantly. No joke.

LFADAM, good that'll make us suck a little bit less. Laughing I'm falling on my stomach because I'm slidingout on the landing.

I still hate HS 180s since I blacked my eye (on the water) and got a concussion a few weeks ago. One thing which is helping though is practising switch toeside jumps. They're horrible at first, but it gives the feeling of landing on switch TS edge.

Oh yeah, and try landing the 180 with both hands in the handle and suck up the landing loads. I'm still a bit stiff legged switch - which is why I bounced onto my face.

Practice all your inside - out 180's on all 4 edges. This gets you better at jumping switch and landing switch. I had trouble on my HS 180 and did this and now I'm sticking them everytime. Try the HS 180 inside out and you will be surprised at how sketchy the switch toeside landing is at that level. As for a next trick, I'd get all the 180's down on each edge, then grab them. But that gets a little boring so start thinking Backroll, Tantrum or 360. Let us know how it goes

The answer is simple- really focus on letting go with your front hand, and sliding the handle to your back hips, and landing looking at the shore. Looking at the shore will help you get more over your toes.
