Gettin up isnt a problem at all, its after i get up. I dont have any control over the direction that i want to go. I was told to go side to side and i tried, but ended up face first in the water, whats wrong?Also, I dont have one of those bars things that you tie the rope up to on the boat, i just have it tied onto the back of the boat,does that effect anything?

you need to hold on to the rope with only one had and keep all the pressure on your back foot

I had the same problem when i was starting out..honestly it took me a long time to get comfy because i didn't work at wakeboarding very much..but this summer i worke don it harder..and got comfy..just spend some time on the water and you'll eventually get comfy...don't be afraid to wipe out..when you test your limits you often find out that you can do more than you thought you could..like ckligor said..just keep weight on ur back foot..when you want to go in the direction of ur toes..just put some added pressure on the board w/ur toes and u'll go that way...opposite for the other way..i hope that helps..

Look on the bright side, at least you can get up easily. Me, I STILL have problems getting up. Once I'm up, I'm partying, but it is sooo frustrating trying to get up for me! I learned to switch while standing and carve after a day, but a few weeks of wakeboarding and I'm still failing to get up on most pulls. Sad

Once you are up, concentrating on pulling the rope into your hips to keep you standing up. This pulling will naturally lean you back onto your rear foot, so the board doesn't dive. Once you are leaning back, just hold on and focus on learning to keep your balance and stay standing behind the boat.

You will probably get pulled outside of the wake and bail quite a bit. Try just focusing on keeping the board straight and behind the boat, which will teach you to shift your weight to prevent the board from veering outside the wake. You will be taking long rides in no time! (And you'll probably be better than me in short order because I still spend all of my time trying to get up.)

I'm a newbie here too, but I'm going to go out on a limb and question what others have said about putting all of your weight on your back foot. On my first few runs, I was doing this. I found it difficult to change directions. It also caused me to skid out when trying to absorb waves from passing boats. My friend, who has been doing it for a while, told me to put more pressure on the front foot. I did and was carving it up on no time. I think you need to put more weight on the heels of BOTH of your feet and then transition it to your toes as the poster above said. I just found out that weighting the back foot substantially more than the front is a good way to wipe out. Think of how hard it would be to ride a skateboard with your back foot behind the rear axle.

For the poster above that is having a hard time getting up, here's what my friend taught me. I got up the first time and have had zero problems getting up. I guess the most common problem is "snow plowing". You know, when you get the board too square to the water and just fight it until you let go. When you're in your ready position, relax and pull your boar up while bending your legs up close to your chest. Extend your arms out. The most important thing that I learned was to point your toes forward and down when in the ready position. This will allow the board to gradually climb to the surface instead of skidding on top. Wait in this squatted position longer than you think you should and then once you're up to speed, you'll slip into your normal riding stance. If you're not having the "snow plow" problem, I can't help. Just some advice from a fellow newcomer.

sara24, I had the same problem as you. I wached my self on video and found out that my front foot was not facing the boat meaning the board was not streight try waching yourself do it in a short video and if that is the problem just streighten out your board. And don't worry about a tower yet. IMO they are completely usless untill you start to jump w2w. don't worry you will be carving in no time!

Keeping more weight on you back foot will put your back fin deeper and let the board trrack better. When you start carving you can put more weight on your front foot.. Personally I ride like 50-50 or maybe 60-40. Either way, i'll ride with more weight on ly front foot sometimes.
