Any ideas for tricks I should try? The new tiny skatepark by my house but in this sweet metal 5ft mini ramp and I can rock to fake, rock n roll, nose stall and kickturn to rock n roll(I think its called a disaster IDK) I've already tried board sliding the coping to rock to fakie but can't get it

lol, what kind of a topic is this. try whatever comes to mind. the reason i hate vert and stuff like that, is you cant do as much. on street, you can do alot. you have sets and ledges and stuff to trick off. on vert, you can basicly only do stalls. you can do a few tricks here and there like grabs or flips, but you need to be really good.

Honeytoast0303, so youve never ridden a mini ramp then....
get some 50-50 variations in there. rock to fakie then do a tail stall. you can try more rock and roll variations like fakie rock and hlaf cab rocks in both directions.

I STRONGLY disagree. In both situations you can't do much until you learn the basics. You won't be able to do any type of grinds or slides on street until you have a good ollie & you learn to guage distances. Then you hafta figure out your balance when you're locked into different grinds. The exact same stuff is true for riding a ramp. Being able to slappy grind on street doesn't make it more versatile.

thats more of what i meant.
on mini, you only have the ramp to skate on and its always the same (unless you skate on different ones, but theyre very similar) on street, you have soo many different setups if you just look around. you have different sets, different ledges, different handrails, almost everything is different.

There are a couple different types of people on this post -
1. those who can skate ramps and street
2. those who can only skate street
If you're making comments like "there are a lot of tricks to do one a mini but i think it gets boring", all that means is you can't skate a ramp.

What should I try first on a mini ramp/ halfpipe. I just found out that my friend (just met him not long ago) has a ~6 ft halfpipe in his back yard! How sweet! Im not too much of a skater...I have a solid ollie, I can do BS shuvs and fakie fs shuvs and manuals etc. Just the very basics. Lately Ive been banana boarding a lot but Ive always wanted to try vert but I didnt want to go to a park for my first time because I would look like a retard. (Im sure Ill have a good share of falls)
Ive practiced stalls on a stair if that helps...any tips for a first timer?

learn how to drop in without sliding out first, next would be a rock to fakie and/or 5050's. A 6 foot is good to learn on, as long as it's solid with smooth transitions that don't get too close to vert.
Vert skating is a lot harder than it looks.

before even dropping in get used to pumping the transition for a while. dropping in is pretty scary for your first time so make sure you have a good feel for the ramp before you just go for it.
wake_quake, vert is short for vertical meaning a ramp or transition that has a section that goes straight up and down.

That ramp may reach verticle, but it is by no means what is considered a "vert" ramp

blairpoelman, I would say a ramp that reached vert would be considered vert actually...

I got to try a "mini ramp" I guess. It was a 3' QP on one side and 6' on the other...I had never done vert so I did some kickturns then tried dropping in the 3. Looks easy and small but you get up there and it seems twice as big. I kept falling on my butt but on my 3rd try I sketched out of it (manualed down it) Definetely harder than it looks!

how does everyone stop the bottom of there mini ramps fraying at the bottom of the ramp? when i say fraying i mean that at the bottom of the ramp where it goes to touching the ground the wood is disintagrating. hard to explain.

weby, the one I was riding was metal.
So I've broken all 5 decks and blown out my knee so no more skating for me, but just an update for you guys, I got pretty damn good at the mini. Its a 5 footer and attached was a 5 ft quarter pipe like sideways on one of the sides and I learned how to transfer back and forth and got that pretty dang big like well over the woping and got some solid grabs in. Even got pumped up one day and went off on it and landed in the middle of the mini ramp instead of the on the downslope est probably a good 12ft in the air. As for in the mini I learned all the 50-50's and 5-0's even nollie nosegrind. Using the whole ramp was cool to flow through it. Blunt stalls, overcrook stalls and grinds, heelflip rock to fakie and much much more. I <3 mini haha and can't wait to heal up and buy a new deck.

Miniramps are the funnest things to skate. That's pretty much all I skate at the park My favourites are boneless-3's, FS and BS disasters, Blunts (still can't land), and crook stalls.
K-wood Kid, how much did it cost you to make?

Unless I'm not understanding something right, you're claiming a 12 ft air out of a 5 ft ramp.

Jester, I mean like 12 feet fro the ground, not the coping. O and I was running full speed to the ramp and then launching haha. I broke 3 days trying it.
QNev, I didn't build it its a local public thing.

i quit skating street once i fell in love with mini in Oceanside, CA. i hated the street course at that park and got deep into mini.
even rode the mini at warped tour in SD in 04.
just progress reasonably. learn the basics, 50-50 stalls, rock and rolls both ways, small boardslides, nose and tail slides, and youll be set.
of course there are guys that do 5 tricks in one lip stall, but you dont have to do that to have fun.
one of my favorite tricks (that also got me the most props) was a fakie nosegrind frontside 180 out. i never got tired of that trick. and hey, learning it on the 3' made it easy to stick it on the 6'
and remember. blunt stalls are easiest on the steeper ramps. you gotta pop way out on the 3' ramp, but barelky gotta pop on the 5' or higher.
just have fun. thats what mini is all about.

That still means you're throwing 5-6 foot airs out of a 5 foot ramp. You sure you aren't over-judging the distance? I'm not saying you can't air, I just think maybe your perspective was a bit skewed (mid-air it definitely can seem that way). What you're claiming is similar to someone saying they can throw 12 foot airs out of a standard vert ramp.
