Anyways, I want to start doing 1's 3's and maybe get supper crazy and attempt a 5'. I'm getting the height on my jumps to do the spins. Now what I need help with is learning to initiate the spins. Any input would be a ppreciated.

Dont start your rotation until after you pop and you feel like the jump is good. Set your axis early and then spin. Spin with your butt to the boat like youre gonna blow a nice chunk straight out the back of you , and point your head the opposite direction. You need to resist the pull of the boat . They call it an on-axis spin , but you need to start leaning way back and have the boat pull you forward to land straight. peace.

to initiate the spin you need to pull the rope to your hips. you need to wait till you pop off the wake, because unlike snowboarding you cant spin off of the lip. so wait till youre in the air, then pull the handle to your hips.

as far as setting the axis, do you want to lean hard away from the boat for any trick and let the boat pull you straight while in the air? Having a lot of problems landing to far forward.

i dont really know how i set my axis. i always just hit the wake like im going to air over or grab or something. i make sure i wait until im in the air then i start the spin, that way im always straight for the landing.

probably a dumb question but i honestly dont know....why wouldnt you start your rotation as soon as you pop off the wake? Wouldn't that give you more time to rotate

general_mike, I would probably ask the same thing. I think its because where ever you initiate the turn thats the axis you're on. Most people like on axis spins. Thats my guess but hey I'm the author of the thread what do I know. Someone pls tell me if I'm right.

Well , unless youre really good at multi-tasking and doing stuff at a million miles a minute , I'd say its best to wait till youre set in the air. But you know , I must confess , I havent even landed a 3 , I just get all my info from The Book. But today I gave a friend of mine the same advice and it worked out alot better than being impatient and spinning off the wake.

general mike, this advice would usually get people spinning before they actually left the wake causing them to go off axis and land on their side. if you wait until you know you are stable in the air its easier to start an on axis spin.

bring the rope to your hips after you are off the top of the wake...pass the handle DOWNWARD..this helps that it will be there when you come around...as well as pulling it to your hips as well

A lot of people try and keep an agressive edge into the wake, this makes it harder to stay on edge. I didnt really get spins good until I lowered the angle of my board, I.E. from the boat you see less of the bottom of my board than before. I kept a strong edge just not leaned as far back, get it? (Watch how shawn W. and some other real good spinners cut, you cannot see much of the bottom of their board yet they sky up, this is important) This helped me stay on axis once I was in the air, and the three's were pretty simple from there. Just wait until you are feeling like the jump is solid before you pull the handle, then pull it. A lot of riders rush this trick and get worked (myself included). As far as gineau pigging it out, spin a couple without the intention to land it right away and get the feel for it. Once you are feeling solid and good about the whole process, start looking for the handle. If it feels like you cant pass the handle because it is too tight then you are probably spinning it too soon. The rope tension feels a tiny bit more than spinning one on the trampoline. Stay loose, and dont rush them, you have way more time than you think. I have pulled some really late ones out where the last bit of rotation (45 degrees) came as I landed.

What also helped keep me on axis (and air aware) was looking through my legs when my back was to the boat, i usually can see the crest of the second wake. Its one of those tricks where you get it, then dont and sometimes its a frustrating viscous cycle. Its mostly a mental trick that requires patience.

i start my three's off the wake, cuz im used to snowboarding. most people are usually really impressed when they see me do my 3's tho because theyre so fluent, starting right off the wake and ending right when i land. i think it looks cooler than delaying it until youre already progressing across the wake.

bhamglassman, when ever i tried spinning right off of the wake(that is how i first tried them because i was used to snowboarding) i just fell on my side. my friends say my 3's are nice and smooth aswell. i think a lot of these people are getting the impression that you need to wait until you are halfway across the wake, its really not that long of a wait, you just need to leave the wake so your board isnt touching water.
