So I have been trying to learn a Whirlybird, but have come to the conclusion I have way too much tension in the line when I do it. So after talking to a friend of a friend he said I needed to learn how to do a Tantrum trip flip style to reduce the tension. So for the last couple of weeks I have been trying to really go off my toes and stand straight up when I do a tantrum. It is a serious pain to try to change the way you do a trick if you have been doing it the same way for the last 5 years. Anyway, when I am actually able to do it correctly I go quite a bit higher and just wake to wake. But it seems like about half the time I go really high and land flat on my back. I think I am doing a 180 also because my ribs on my right side are sore (I am regular foot). The flip feels really off axis and slow also. Any tips to reducing the pain, then maybe some tips to help me do it correctly would be nice too Cool

im no pro at tantrums but if ur doin a 180 or 90 or w.e then u need to square more to the wake and make sure to lead a little with your shoulders, but the 180 comes from leaving crooked and the slow spin could be from not keeping the handle in or not leading, maybe thatll help a little

ohio_wake_2008, oh you think you are saying wft, try being in my situation; upsidedown, way too high, drifting into I guess you could call it a flat spin, and knowing you are going to land flat on your back. I was kind of thinking about it this weekend and I think it kind has to do with how quick you transition to your toes for the trip. Does anyone have experience with this? It seems to me if you do it to slow you don't get a lot of pop and everything happens really slow in the air. Of couse the other issue is when to do it. I have been watcing myself on video and notice sometimes I go to my toes after I have left the wake. That is pretty annoying.

ohio_wake_2008, it is the type of flip a tantrum is. You are supposed to edge in hard, square up, and flatten out your board so the wake "trips" you over.

And actually when I was watching videos of a guy doing it he would get up onto his toes as he left the wake. It really makes a difference when you do it right. Like I was saying it launches you straight up.

So I rode last night with a friend that can do Whirly Birds. He said it looks like I am throwing my Tantrums away from the boat, which creates tension in the line. He said when you do a whirly you need to throw it more parallel to the boat or almost towards the boat to help get rid of that tension. Anyone have any experience with this?
