What boats and what years were the first boats to have specific wakeboard hulls or V-Drive setups?

Although Al Gore invented all the intital designs of boat hulls and propulsion systems, he was sucessful in an infringment lawsiut over his utility designs with a major boat manufacturer.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Gore sold the rights to his utility patents to that boat manufacturer who inturn recieved royalties from other manufactures.

(Thats my opinion but I could be wrong)

In 98 the Air from Nautique was released as the first wakeboard specific boat. All it was was a sport hull with tower and internal ballast.

Centurion had the first V-drive tow boat in 1986. They also had the first wakeboard boat called the Wave in 1995 with internal ballast & "elevated rope anchor point" It's all on the website or this years catalog.

Aren't most of the older "wakeboard hulls" basically just the slalom boats that people put lots of weight in?

The Wakesetter for example is Malibus SV23 hull that's been around for years and years...

before the late 90's, the Nautiques were the same hulls too...

Centurion apparently designed the first wakeboard-specific boat.

I believe all the companies have been tweaking the bottom designs to get better wake shape with each newer model.

um i saw a 1969 CC V-Drive some where.

the 1998 Air was the first wakeboarding spacific boat. the first wakeboarding hull though would be launched the following year, the TWC hull was introduced, it basicaly sucks the back end of the boat into the watter.

Yea! And CC invented the wakeboard tower…more like ripped it off. I’ve seen pics in powerboat mag from 1993 showing Mike Mac behind the photo boat being pulled from the tower. CC just ripped off the idea went out and paid someone at the patient office to slide it thru and is now holding the rest of the industry hostage by making them pay to use towers. And it all comes back to us in higher prices! I guess CC is just trying to justify that way to high price tag on their bathtubs…I mean boats. I hate it when people hide behind the bible.

Looks like Centurion did the wakeboard thing first.
