| im running into a serious problem, i am still ridin behind an i/o without a tower, the wake is not really that bad though, but i have very little hangtime, i can do most of the basics, w2w jumps, ollie 180's, w2w 180's, grabs, but i have been tryin all summer and i cant land a 360 or a backroll, i think simply because i dont have a nice enough setup, and im just gettin bored doin the same stuff every time.....i need some advice... |

You're in a rut. It happens to the best.
You have to mix it up. Get on the wakeskate. Try switch stance wake to wake jumps on the wakeboard. Practice doing different grabs or pokes or something that you don't usually do.
The fun will return. Don't put so much pressure on yourself to land a 3 or a backroll. _________________ You might think you know. |

| Ride with people better than you....not necesarily people with better equipment. Not only can they give you tips, but they provide that inspiration to learn new stuff. |

| Dillard, thats not too bad. spend 75 dollars and get a set in behind a nice boat. think of the cost in gas and upkeep youd be paying for your boat, its not a terrible price. |

This I do not understand.
A bad day at the lake is far better then the best day at work, so jsut enjoy it, even if you just carve turns for an hour, wakeboarding still rules |

I agree, anything with excesive repitition (sp?) can get boring. Try something totally different. Wakeskating, while different, is wakeboarding without bindings.
Go ride 2 skis, a slalom ski, a kneeboard, airchair, or even a tube . You're still on the water, still keeping the muscles worked, and hopefully having a good time.
I actually found myself feeling the same way, I haven't been on a wakeboard in 3 weeks (although I've got the desire to get back out tonight). I actually have been riding double trick skis. Never have I found myself feel more uncoordinated in my life, and I've been having a blast just trying to mess around on them. I've almost even landed w2w 180's and front flips, and by taking some time off, I'm ready to get back to wakeboarding.
Like mentioned above, you do get burnt out, so take some time off. When you come back, you'll be ready to go again. Your body/mind will tell you when its time. |

| Learn to drive and hit double ups. Learn to ride switch. Don't neglect your toeside. All of the old school pros innovated a lot of tricks behind boats that put out even smaller wakes than I/O's and they had the rope down low. If they can do it you can do it. The tricks will come. For many a big wake is a crutch that lets them get away with having bad technique. |

Think about back before we had ballast and towers (or even high poles). Watch some old school videos. You don't need all of that equipment, just proper technique. Hell, back in the mid 90's I learned a HS3 and a tantrum behind a waverunner with a ski rope. Don't look for excuses, look for ways to ride more and perfect your edging. _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

I landed my first 3 behind a jetski and have landed them off the ollie also. Get videos of yourself and compare them to videos you watch of other people doing tricks. There is a lot of progression before you run out of things to do behind a small wake. Riding with someone better than you will help a lot.
Have you worked on bs180s? I'd definitely work on those. They're super styly. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| I would def suggest to try and cruise around the lake and make some friends with people who have the better waking boats. Tho this can be tuff alot of times these people are looking for other people to board with and buddy up with. I did this saturday while I was at the lake with my parents. They only have the ole bass'n boat but there was a guy out there with a malibu wakesetter who needed a third $ |

I get in a rut once in awhile too. I used to think it was my boat (17' glastron I/O) sometimes because I was stuck doing the same tricks (backroll, 3's, 180's etc...). You just have to try some new stuff. Just have fun. It's not all about going huge and spinning like crazy...do some stylish lip slides and such. BS 180's inside to out of the wake looks rad, as well as out in the flats off ollies. Try landing some ollie 180's blind. Then when you get behind a boat that bucks you, you'll be looking smooth. Long story short...I now have a 05 Vride with 2000 lbs ballast, great wake, maybe the best I've ridden...and I still get in a rut from time to time. In fact, I'm in one right now. I took out all the ballast (sand) and I've been strictly wakeskating for the last month. I'm having fun again! Good luck.

I really don't know what to say to this because I have yet to get into a 'rut'. Wakeboarding is the best extra curricular activity that I have ever gotten into, and because of how much fun I have while boarding everything else that I do has lost a lot of its fun factor (in comparison to wakeboarding). _________________ |

I agree with the suggestion of riding with people better than you..... its highly likely you will stomp some new tricks if your riding with people better than you. Its a guy thing to try to out do each other. I can't land to much of anything but I'm gonna die trying... _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. carve turns for an hour? what kinda Taco Bell Chalupa stuff is that, thats what waterskiing is for
Dillard, learn dockstarts and then start doing them off of roofs, small cliffs, big docks, diving boards, whatever... it's fun. build sliders, i havent hit any sliders yet but i know that you dont even want a wake for this. im building a 20 foot rainbow slider with free mats this week with my crew, it should be sick. also you can build kickers. i cant believe no one mentioned sliders yet.
there are so many grabs in wakeboarding that when i get really really tired and just wana take a mellow set, i just try and do a bunch of new grabs. im guessing you havent even tried any front hand grabs. learn to grab method, nuclear, and all that cool stuff. then start tweaking all the grabs you have in your arsenal and learn to do them on your wake to wake 1's.
go to a camp or something if you really wana learn some new stuff. if you learned it on a bigger wake you could probably transfer it to your boat. also, im doubting youre the only wakeboarder on the lake, so hook up with some other riders and get a tow. i know some people that even just take a sign that says "WAKEBOARDER, HAVE GAS MONEY FOR A SET", then they go chill at the end of someone's dock and whistle at the mastercraft's and nautiques until they see the sign, it actually works well.

then don't do the same old stuff until you land the new stuff. when im really workin on a trick i do a hs w2w and a ts w2w and then i try the trick over and over and over again. the day i tried to learn the 360 i just tried it like 20 times and i was getting the handle pass but not quite landing it at the end of the day. ive landed it now, just dont give that stuff up, keep in mind that when you learn a 3 on this small wake then when you go to a better boat everything will seem that much easier.
and of course, ****BALLAST**** i don't know if your boat can handle a lot of weight, but get that boat sittin low and it oughta kick up a better wake. get some fat sacks or a bunch of hot girls and youre good to go. or better yet, both. _________________ signatures are lame |

werd! ^^^^^ What he said! Just throw some new grab combo's with your 1's and if you're daring, bust the 3 with a late grab... You have so many options on the water that you should NEVER run out of new things to try _________________ http://www.myspace.com/galen96 |
