I posted this question with not one reply, how about a little help out there ??
Hi all , I just got a 86 Supra ts6m ski boat with a monster tower. The boat has a 351 ford with a holly carb. It puts out a great wake now but my buddie and I want to tweak it for maximum performance. Beacuse it's an older model it doen't have sufficent storage in the rear of the boat, but the back seat top does come off. The boat is closed bow but has storage space on under the driver side and and passenger side. I am considered adding two sacs on each side of the front and one big sac for the back, but I don't want to distribute the weight incorrectly. I have heard of a device called a wakeplate but know nothing about it. The previous owner said that you could adjust the holly carbuerator to change the size of the wake as well, also something I am scared to fool with because I just don't know much about it. Any advice on correct wake sac positioning, wakeplates and carb modification would be greatly appreciated.
thanx,

I can't think why or how a carb adjustment would change the shape of the wake- I think he may have been trying to sell you a boat.
As for the wake plate- I don't know, they put a lot of stress on the hull.
As for sacs- Generally I think 40% in the front, 60% rear |

huevo, I have an '89 Comp TS6M, and have the wake tweaked faily nice. Here's a couple of options for you.
You can run one sac on the backseat and two in the bow (one on each side of the divider). I would recommend sticking with the 60% in the back and 40% in the front. Fly High's new Pro X series sacs are supposed to be incredible. They make a rear seat sac that's 12x26x62 and weighs 680 lbs. To keep the percentage close, you'd need about 450lbs in the bow. You could run the Pro X Series side sacs that are 12x12x28 and 260lbs each, then just not fill then up all the way. This would leave the aisles open, but you would have three sacs to fill.
The second option is to run one sac on each side of the motor box. This is the way I went because I didn't want to loose the storage space under the bow. Plus I have a lot of stereo equipment that takes up some of the bow space. Anyway, Fly High makes the v-drive sacs that are 16x16x42 and weigh 400 lbs each. You loose the walking space in the aisle, but you keep all of your storage.
Anyway, these are a couple of options for you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Oh and the carb thing is a lie. Adjusting the carb cannot make the wake bigger. Also, if you adjust the wakeplate that's on the back of the boat all the way up, then it will help out your wake.

and just a tip,
if you want people to respond/read your post it helps if you put something as to what the post is about in the title. "I'll try this post again" doesn't tell me anything about your topic and most people will probably skip it.
If you buy 3 sacks are you're planning, I'm sure you'll find a good way to distribute the weight.
Good plan putting some up front too! You'll probably have to tweak it on your own unless you find someone who has that boat that can tell you how they did it. _________________ This has been a DizzyG Message |
