Not sure if this is considered a noob ??? but I need help with pop off the wake. Originally I was edging hard into the wake but at 90 degrees to the boat and not getting much height but good distance. I was reading some posts and now realize that possibly one shouldn't edge into the wake at 90 to the boat but possibly less???? I seem to have good speed at the wake going at 90 but no pop, the wakes not big (riding behind an older i/o and an older board) but we are using a pylon and feel like I should be getting more pop. Grabs dont look that cool when your only 3 ft up . Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Use a progressive edge. You may feel like its 90º to the boat, but in reality is isnt. Just start with an easy cut out in the flats and gradually cut harder and harder as you hit the wake. This should mean that youre still accelerating as you ride up the wake. Stand tall, but dont necessarily jump. Its the same pop you would use on a diving board or a trampoline. And pull the handle in to your front hip with both hands for some added line tension. _________________ Long Island, NY & Canada Lake, NY (addirondacks)

Thanks all. I think I understand now. According to my wife and the other riders in the boat after some discussion yesterday we all cut hard in toward the wake and then flatten out at the last minute. Based on the info you gave looks like we need to keep the cut through the wake? Gonna be out this afternoon so we will give it a try.
ckligor,
The pictures are really quite helpful. Thanks. _________________ " I think were going to need a bigger boat "-Police Chief Martin Brody |

Yes. Your edge should be strongest as youre going through the wake. Think 10% edge out coasting in the flats and 100% edge as youre leaving the wake. This is why a no stretch line is so important. If you have stretch, as soon as youre airbourne the line will pull you forward like a slingshot with all that tension. Keeping the handle at your waist means that even with the no stretch rope, the line tension and the pull of the boat will pull you from your center of gravity, rather than if you had the handle high and it pulled you over onto you face.
Hope this helps _________________ Long Island, NY & Canada Lake, NY (addirondacks)
