i've been bording for a couple of summers now and finally started to videotape myself boarding. All this time i thought i was getting really high up in the air. However i was wrong. I can cross wake to wake just fine but i only get a few feet up in the air.. i have a tower and ride behind an i/o with a decent wake. i am confident my heelside edge is pretty good however i still do not get high up in the air. i usually drive around 32 rpm's... my rope is about 65 ft. non stretch...does weight have a factor - i weigh 190 lbs. what may be the cause?

What kind of board are you riding? A three stage will pop you higher but you wont go as far.

Agreed... Weight, as covered by physics, will not play a big enough factor in your air... It is about speed, and of course, board design!

Yeah i definitly agree with you...its usually not the board its usually the person..you just hafta concentrate and give a progressive edge hold the handle close to your body and pop off the wake and suck your knees up Puppy Eyes Mr. Green

Laughing Shaun Murray seems to do okay with his continuous board.

Anyway, it sounds like you've got to work on your progressive edge. You want your strongest edge to be as you're going off the wake.

camcdonald1, I had/have the same problems as you but this is what helps me out.

Don't cut out as far only cut out 10-15'. This will force you to have a proper progressive edge just to clear the wake. Put the handle to your hips and stand all at the top of the wake.

Exactly. Don't worry about getting a new board. Take a shorter cut and focus on getting low to the water (knees bent, leaning hard) as your coming into the wake and as you ride up the wake focus on extending your legs so that they're fully extended as you reach the top of the wake.

I didn't mean that it will completely change the way you ride. Rolling Eyes I meant that if he wanted more distance a continous would HELP, not fix it. I know that Murray rides a continous and that he goes HUGE but I dont know aboutn you but Murray's a bit better than me so I ride a three stage to try for some more hight. Adn you can feel the difference in popbetween the two. A 3 stage will have alot more abrupt pop.

You dont need a new board, but knowing what kind of rocker you have will help to make you concious (sp?) of your approach to the wake. When I'm riding cont. I approach a bit faster to get the hight I want but 3 stage I can cut a bit slower.

i dont think anyone answered ur ques. yet so no u didnt buy the wrong board and i think it has a continuous rocker. and if u were wondering rocker is the amount of curve in the board or the distance in height between the tip/tail and middle of the board. a board w/ a continuous rocker has a smooth curve from tip to tail and a board w/ 3 stage rocker curves from the tip and then there is a flat spot in the middle and then it continues curving back up to the tail. sorry if that was a little confusing.

Bend your knees as your edging into the wake and stand tall at the crest of the wake to get maximum pop = air.

right technique makes all the difference. I have noticed that when i do it correctly i get height and distance but when i do it wrong its just distance. standing all makes all the difference.

The Headless Chicken, is exactly right. You might want to focus on how you are approching and riding through the wake. I hate to keep posting this image
