well i leanred mine at a camp i went to, they said cut out as you would normally, then do a very light cut toqwards the wake, about 10-15 feet before the wake cut as hard as you can, this will pop you high enough and start your rotation, you want to put your chin to your shoulder, and lead the roll with your front knee. make sure you wait until the top of thwe wake to through the roll.spot your landing if you can, and as soon as you are hitting the water extend your arms all the way whioch will stop your rotation. ride away and wave to the ladies in the boat.
it looks like you are over rotating so jsut remember to cut properly and then extend your arms when you land. |

i cant do backrolls, but it looks like you are flattening out right as you hit the wake which is killing most of your pop. this is understandable because you're probably thinking about the upcomming rotation rather than getting max pop, but if you just edge all the way through the wake you should get more height and have alot more time to roll. Also, you dont nessecarily need to cut out toeside that far, but it dosent matter as long as you build your progressive edge and keep good line tension.
thats just what im seeing....hope it helps |

Yeah, I'm not edging as far through the wake as I need to. _________________ |

| slalomguy, pretty much when you reach the top of the wake bring your knee up when you lean back and its sort of leading the rotation. thats just what my teacher told me to do and it works. |

| when attempting a backroll, should i start the rotation as soon as i pop off the wake? If not, how long should i wait to start because i know in a 360 you wait until the peak of your jump but that doesnt sound too smart when trying a flip |

from what I have felt, and been told you wait until the top of the wake (so as your popping) to throw the rotation. _________________ |

| wait till you are at the very top of the wake to pop, and the rope only matters if you are not landing it on the downslope of the other wake, shorten the rope if ou are lending ontop of the opposite wake and lengthen it if you are landing past the opposite wake |

I just learned a backroll last weekend, and my failed attempts looked a lot like yours. After landing it a couple of times it sticks and then its almost routine, so keep at it you are really close. I definately agree that you need to hold your edge a little longer, and I think you are under rotating because you're leaving to soon. It looks like you're falling backwards which means your body hasn't made it around enough to become centered on the board. Try these two things; its what finally got it for me.
1. Be sure and keep the rope at about waist level during take off, during rotation and during landing. This should help the rotation and line tension.
2. You really don't have to cut as hard as you think, take it pretty easy coming in until you get about 10 feet away, then pick up the pace. At the wake, push the board (perpendicular to the wake) up and through the wake. Keep that rope in nice and tight and enjoy the landing.
One more thing, once you do land it, celebrate with one hand not two, I through both of my hands in the air and let go of the rope. But what can I say, I was stoked. |

wmc9, thanks for the help.....I really have to concentrate on getting the most pop I can by edging throught he wake because the actual invert is not really that hard its getting enough pop to roll and spot the landing that is the harder part.........I'll defiantely be celebrating once I land It, and I will definately post it up on here. _________________ |

| nickdakoolkat, you're losing line tension right as you come into the trough of the wake it looks like. Start a bit closer to the wake, and let the wake throw you around. You almost got it though. |
