i have found myself wanting to wear gloves when i ride so i can hold on better and longer to the handle. i have a moteratly cheap handle from a local boat store but it has good grip. i can ride without gloves but only for a few pulls before i have no more strength to hold the handle when carving or jumping....

does anyone else wear gloves or am i alone on this one????

i wear gloves a lot. it keeps my hands from getting tore up and i have pretty bad nerve damage in my left hand so it eases the pain a little bit.

If youve got your reasons to wear gloves, go for it, but dont expect much love from the folks here. Theyll make fun of you like you ride the short bus to school.

yea that's fine...flame me, but really i had my left ring finger crushed in a 1 ton pneumatic press last summer. had to have it completely reconstructed and right now the only feeling i really have in it is pain. so when i'm trying to pull a trick through and the handle snaps out of my hand, it gives me a little protection instead of turning me into the driver for an hour

I bought some gloves on the advice of someone (could have been a skier Embarassed ) who said they'd improve my riding. The gloves sat in a bag for a year and I finally took one out today and put it on my hand but I just couldn't do it. I have to ride bare Wink Only problem is my ring cuts into the flesh of my finger.

sounds painful....i'd be careful riding with a ring tho. i was talking to my aunt who is a nurse in milwaukee and she said a guy came in the other day and his finger had been torn off in a wakeboarding accident cuz his wedding ring caught on the rope when he fell (don't ask me how). just a word of warning

gloves are a great idea. I got some for myself and my girl. they really help in the long run.......like someone else said the help your hands from getting trashed. I'm a construction worker and i don't use gloves at work , but i do need them on the water. I bought a pair for about 26 bucks and man was it worth it.

This came up in a previous post on this same topic. I wear gloves in the spring and fall becuase when you ride in the midwest during those times gloves help keep the hand warm!

I don't really see how gloves would help you hold on longer, that seem's like more of an arm and hand strength issue to me. Push-ups and hand work-outs (is there such a thing?). But if gloves help, to each his own. I have a crappy no-name handle that used to hurt a lot, but now it doesn't bother me at all, so my opinion is that it's just a waste of money you could spend on other things, and we all know there are plenty of things to spend your money on in wakeboarding.

dont buy gloves. dont wear gloves. save the money buy a nice handle. dont buy rope/handle combos either. i was trying an 06 proline handle the other day and i think it could quite possibly be the end of blisters. i dont want to finish the end of the season without it but i have to wait for 06 like everyone else.

My wife tried them once and hated the feel, she wanted to try and see if it would make it more comfortable. However, my bro-inlaw wears them because he had trouble holding on to the handle. I dont wear them. I think what it comes down to is what are you comfortable doing. If you like it do it.

I hate wearing gloves when I ride. I like to be able to feel the handle, it helps when doing handle passes. Maybe look into getting a better handle like the foam grips. You can ride all day and your hands won't hurt at all.

intotheflats, Word... Gloves are like fat chicks; they are cool until someone see's you with them on you.

All joshing aside, your body will build up a tolerance to anything. Your hands will get adapted to the rigors of a bad grip and will create a calus on the trouble areas. Either let nature do its thing, or invest in a better grip.

Trust me, the people who use them are to big of pansies to let their body fix itself, and in turn are going to be punished with pointing and laughter, followed by, "your a f*g" comments... And they do somewhat hender performance.

I bought gloves when we were all learning... it made it easier for everyone to hold the rope... I still wear them because the handle feels too small, but when I get a little better, I'll prob. suck it up or just buy a handle that I like. They def. helped people first starting out though to last through a few attempts at getting up. I couldn't do full gloves though - my g/f and I both use the 3/4 finger gloves.

gloves lesson the amount of force needed to keep a hold on the handle. This is unfortunately not good for you. By using gloves, you're depriving your body of the chance to increase muscle stamina. No gloves makes your body adapt and soon, within 3 weeks your arms and hands will have increased their muscle stamina 10 fold...
