learning a backroll

this weekend i am going to learn my first invert. im pretty sure it is going to be a hs backroll. what do you think? and any tips?

Most people have 2 problems:

1. They don't stand tall at the wake. You have to extend your legs just like any other w2w.

2. They try to throw the trick too early which kills all their pop.

Tip - Hold onto the rope with both hands.

thanks man. do you think its easy behind a bayliner or should i first try it behind a friends air nautique 216

I think most inverts are easier with a big wake. I find spins to be easier on a smaller, rampy wake.

A tower will help tremendously though. So if it were me I'd try it behind the 216 first. It's definitely possible behind the bayliner, it's just harder to learn.

he has like 1600 of ballast and its really big and rank scary though so im not sure

brettm, if you're not comfortable on a bigger wake you might not be ready for the backroll. Can you ride switch, go w2w toeside, and have a couple 180s under your belt?

I would recomend learning these before trying the backroll. You will be much more comfortable on the water and you should be much more prepared for the backroll.

brettm, so tell him not to fill all the ballast

or be a man and sack it up.

Also, to add a third problem to learning inverts...My problem was that I was closing my eyes and, therefore, not spotting my landing. The first time I made the effort to open my eyes I landed it.
