Lets start with some basic information.
1) I've been wakeboarding 2 times
2) The only thing I have to pull me is a jet ski
3) I'm old as dirt, but I am willing to face plant if thats what it takes to
learn.
I have been watching video of people doing ollies and it seems like they push thier front foot down and rebound off the pressure to get into the air.
Is this right?
Also is it possible to jump off of a jetski wake? Any pointers?
If your not tired of answering questions yet, then, when you do a surface 180 is it just a matter of keeping the leading edge out of the water while you turn?
Thanks in advance,
R. |

pushing the front foot down initially just gets your rythym down and deffinately can help ollie bigger, however is not necessary to ollie.
Its possible to do wake jumps however you will not recieve any pop or "air" off the jet ski wake whatsoever.
surface 180's are simply using your hips to break the board loose and slide around the board while moving the handle to your lead hand. |

Thanks for the info, but.....
if pushing the front foot down isn't necessary to do an ollie, what IS necessary?
thanks again,

| Push down your back foot first then pull up your front foot. After you do that pull your back foot up to level it with your front. If you have a skateboard or something you can master it before you hit the water again. |

AHHHHH. that makes sense. My second time out I tried to ollie by just pulling both my feet up to my chest.....needless to say that ended in a hard faceplant. This time I'll try pushing with the ol' back foot first.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Any other advice about how to get better is welcome. Also is it normal to be significantly more comfortable on healside? When I go to cross the wake toeside its like.....well its bad. |

randall1, yea just jumping up wont do it at all. You need to create pressure under the board and thats what your back foot will do. _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

ya im doin the rocking thing now when i try to do really high ollie backside 180s or whatever. i actually am starting to kind of jump just barely off the water (it's more of a skip) with a lot of weight on my front foot and then immediately after landing i do the regular ollie motion and it allows me to get a lot higher. with a little rythm, that first skipping motion helps you pop out of the water a lot higher for some reason. _________________ signatures are lame |

| also, practice your ollies outside of the wake where the water isn't all washed out. btw.. what type of jet ski are you riding behind? The one me and Johny_WA use puts out a decent enough wake to get pretty good pop. It is a 04 yamaha 800 3seater.. Johny_WA landed a w2w ts 180 yesterday behind it.. just practice practice practice.. |

Yeah, I have only been out 3 times total. I started to do ollies last time. I have a long way to go, but I feel this will help when I start landing jumps. I am just using a jetski so my jumps aren't big by any means, but I still feel out of control on the landings. Ollies have already made me more confident atleast, and they are safer to do, so after my head was pounding from eating it I switched to ollies.
I haven't quite got the rocking thing down....paranoid of burying the tip into the water. Don't know how hard I can push on the front before tragedy strikes. I can already feel that the rock is the way to get higher....although I'm so incredibly bad that I could easily be wrong. Defanitely out to the side you are most comfortable on to start. |
