Well after my second time out last weekend i can now get up easily and have begun cutting back and forth a little bit and experimenting crossing over the wake (not jumping).

I tried doing a surface 180 a few times and got around twice but immediately face planted. I think its because i'm not shifting the weight to my back foot once i make the turn.

any tips or suggestions that will help completing and maintaining the surface 180?

I would like to try to start jumping the wake also but feel I should learn to ride switch first.

How did you guys learn? Switch first or jumping first?

thanks

I learned how to make small jumps first but I am not sure which one should be attempted first. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

As far as the surface 180 goes my suggestion would be to keep from putting too much weight forward.

i started jumping first, and then did switch. but you could do both at the same time EX. do a couple wake jumps and then do some 180's

i would also reccommend going very slow when trying your surface 180s as it hardly hurts at all when you fall at that speed and since the wake will be much wider at a slower speed you have plenty of room work on just carving around a bit with both stances...

go for the jump cut hard and level out for the pop of the wake. do it with your toes facing the boat. If you crash do it with as much style as possible. don't wait do it today.

I learnt to jump the wake first but I've heard you best learning to ride switch first. Thats what they teach you if you were to have lessons. Its personal preference. Gud Luck

i learned how to ride switch first and it is well worth it cause then once you learn how to do jumps youll just go for 180s but be horrible at rideing switch

they say the best riders are the ones you can't tell what is there better lead foot

When I first learned surface 180's I fell hard becasue of forgetting to move my weight back to my back leg. As far as which you should learn first... I would go with jumping b/c you can then progress and do tricks from those jumps. Just don't attemp anything that will have you landing switch.

Im goofy footed OR SHOULD BE ...but because i wanted to learn switch i learned to ride the board the right way and its my strong side now. But since im cumfortable the other way i can switch easy..

It helped me to grind the board at a 90 before going to the 180....try grinding the wake then switching, the fins should be outta the water by then
