Why do people spend so much money on light 'racks' for their towers when you can just go on ebay and get some nice Hellas or Piaa's for about a third the cost? Is it the mounting that's a hassle? I know on my 'bu with the illusion tower I have mounting holes drilled all over the friggin place, so in my eyes, it just seems like a waste. (if you read between the lines you'll see that I just bought four sets of Hella ff50 lights off of ebay and I'm just making sure I didn't screw up)

Hey kmagnuss,
I'll go you one further, why have lights at all? The ruin your night vision (and mine too when I have to look at someone coming at me.... )

I'd have to agree, lights are pretty pointless when driving or wakeboarding. The only purpose I see them having is lighting up the boat in the middle of a lake so you can't tell it's night out. They also make it easier to find the cooler of beer after a few too many. One more item that is very handy is when you pull your boat out of the water, you can turn the lights on to help clean out the boat and dry it off at night (THEY ALSO ATTRACT MESQUITOS)
However I've gone wakeboarding behind lights before, all they do is give you some direction of when you're going to hit the wake. You might as well go without them, or wait for a full moon.
(I have tower lights, but not thoroughly impressed -- I do use them quite often though)

They are a big waste of cash, it's all about people trying to look cool. If you want some light inside your boat, do like I am. Put some LED's in it, mine are red, no mosquitos, and cool look.
We can't ride at night here either. Legally. But if I was really gonna put lights on to use to drive at night, mainly just 4 forward facing lamps, I would get some PIAA, or Hella slim lights, they are a vicious spotlight and would light up your front end like a sun. I personally think it would look cool to have some big ole off roader lights on there, but I am from Tennessee.
Anyways my buddy just dropped $750 to have the inside of his boat light up like a christmas tree, what a waste, his wife was pissed! |

$40 / Under car neon kit (NEW) from Ebay (2) 36" tubes & (2) 48" tubes
$165 / (6) Light(bar) from www.WakeWorx.com
Installed / $20 (extra wiring and fuses)
It's stupid to pay $750, but yeah that's my opinion. Under $300 easily for all this is well worth the money, even if it does just look cool and you use it 4-6 times a summer. I figure I got my moneys worth the first summer.

gdillyfunk69, With a gas pump and money. You guys have to understand that if they have the money to blow and arent to handy there gonna buy them. Why do people but X Stars but use them for tubing? Because they can and they look cool. Its the same thing just in a larger prespective. _________________ The sky is not the limit. Wanna see me naked? |

what about when your having too much fun out on the water and by the time you reach the ramp it's pitch black? possibly the only good use for tower lights asside from a status symbol. a decent hand held spotlight runs about $50. awe f#@! it..
I want some tower lites, they look sick and you just never know, could come in handy from time to time. I'm gonna duct-tape some maglites up there. _________________ "will work for boat gas" |

Yeah, you got me pegged. I have some Titan lights on my tower, thus I must not be handy? You're right I only have them so I can look cool.
Great logic, I use my towerlights almost every time I go riding at dusk, they aren't really for night riding, but at dusk they do a great job of lighting up the trough of the wake. I really like them myself, they are also really nice for docking and wakesurfing IMO. But to each his own.
Wait no no, they're just on there to look cool. My bad. _________________ wakeboards

I've been thinking about a cheapo led courtesy light solution to mount on the tower pointed down into the boat to light it up for cleaning...thats when I need the light....oh...and bow lights would be really nice for lining up on the trailer in the dark.
I wouldnt have much use for lights for boarding, would rather not ruin the night vision. |

Tower lights really do me no good. Paid a pretty penny, and only use them to dock or clean boat. USELESS TO ME, anyone interested in a light bar? LOL _________________ Dustin L Edwards
