K, I'm having this huge problem! Every time I try to "switch stance" I wipe out and come up with either a bloody nose or a busted jaw. What do I do? Am I doing something wrong? It's really starting to suck but it's kinda funny at the same time!

Every other start try to go switch.
Try slowing the boat WAY down so falling isn't quite so violent.
Keep the handle low to help from getting pulled over and to keep your arms in a better position to break the water before your face hits.
Wear a motorcycle helmet.
Keep practicing.

sunshinegirl05, i'm assuming you're crashing while your switching your stance around... if so, just do a surface 180 and lean back far on your edge and lean agains the rope. Also, try ollie 180's. After you get those for me the easiest way to get back to my regular stance was a littly 1 wake 180.

Like numbfoot said, just make sure you are leaning back.. not forward. Just try to get up in switch stance so you don't have to butterslide into it. Once you learn how to ride switch well it will REALLY pay off in the future.

I would suggest taking your fins off your board. I just learned how to switch and taking the fins off helped SOOO much!!!

yeah like wkbrdlvr said it DEFANITELY helps to get switched around if u take off your fins. But if you don't have molded fins it might suck trying to learn to ride switch with a really squirly board, so keep that in mind.

K, so wait...I'm supposed to take the fins off? But that makes it really hard to control. I thought the fins were supposed to help. What's a surface 180? Wow this is really confusing. Like seriously...confusing. I can start switch but I want to be able to switch while I'm going. Ya know? The motorcycle helmet thing was pretty funny. lol

sunshinegirl05, if you have molded fins it will be beneficial to take off ur fins to learn surface 180's.

Surface Trick: A trick performed with the board on the water the whole time

or, Surface 180: A 180 performed with the board on the water the whole time

so basically you're going to lean back on to your edge to spin around the other way and your board will not leave the water. make sense? i don't know how else to explain it.

a surface 180 is like on a snowboard.. basically diggin in with your heels and spinning around.. if your board leaves the water when you are switching, that would not be a surface 180..

The best advice I can give, (keep in mind I am a beginner myself) is to lean back pretty far, dig in with your heels and try to powerslide (I think this is a butter slide?) so your board is horizontal and then just let go of the rope with what WAS your leading hand.

this may not be right, but it is how I do it Very Happy
