|
|
I have ridden behind various newer boats - 05 vlx, 03 gravity games supra 22v, 04 mastercraft x30, and they all put out a significantly different wake. Last month I bought a 01 X-Star, and I load it with around 2700lbs of ballast on the weekends. Out of all of the boats I've ridden behind, I love the X-Star's wake the best. I think that the malibu's is not steep enough, and, on the other hand, the wake behind the nautiques that I've ridden behind get too hard when you load them real heavy. The closest I've found to the X-Star is the gg supra, however, it would wash over before it got to the same size as the X's. Now I know everybody likes a different wake for a different reason, and I'm not saying that the X-Star (now the X2's) wake is the best for everybody, but I am simply saying that I think that it is the best for me because I like a big, peaky, wake that hold's its shape when the boat is loaded to the max. I'm just curious as to other people's opinion as to their favorite wake and why. Personally, I can throw tantrums so much bigger off of my wake instead of behind my bud's vlx because I always leave too early behind his boat.
Anyway, I'm just curious as to whether there is a best "all around wake" that everybody loves.

I love super air wakes. You hardly have to edge to get booted. It can get a little too vertical sometimes...But man you edge in from abour 7 feet and get get booted. so when you really get on the gas...its over man!

| 2004 Malibu wakessetter VLX was probably the nicest wake i've ever ridden behind. From there an '03 or '04 x-star and '05 Air Nautique.

Out of the wakes I have experienced the best is my 04 Moomba XLV with 2000 pounds of ballast but besides this boat the only other boats i have experienced are my old bayliner (no weight) , my friends bayliner fishing boat, and a 95 Mastercraft ski boat (i think it was a mari star I forget) so I really don't have much to base this off of but I do know I LOVE my Moomba (especially for the price)

hmmm wakes that I like the best, which are not necessarily "THE BEST"
1) X-2 perfect amount of pop and landing area.
2) X-star, the wake was the biggest I've ever ridden behind
3) Tie between my old X-10 and the new Supra 21v. Both of the wakes were very similar.
4) Tige 24V, I didn't ride behind it when it was weighted but it was pretty nice with just he TAPS
5) SAN too steep and I don't like the trough right in front of the wake.
6) VLX Too much of a landing in the flats kind of wake, I like a bit more pop.
Those are the wakes I have the most experience behind on.
All of them are great, but given the choice it would be X-2 first down to the VLX

| I guess the VLX gets the best ratings so far. The thing I do like about that wake better than the x-star's is that, since it is so long of a ramp, you have a bigger target to land on when you're shooting for the down side of the wake.

Super Sport Nautique/Super Air gets the nod from me.
2nd is a heavily weighted Ski nautique 2001
3rd is the Mastercraft Prostar 205

I'd have to give the nod to the Supra 21V w/stock ballast as my favoritre right now, nice ramp w/o great pop at the top.
I also like the SAN w/stock ballast but I sometimes ride behind one w/like 3000 lbs of ballast in it and it absolutely kills my knees.
Tige 21V is pretty sweet too correctly weighted too.
I'm pretty content riding behind any VD or DD w/ballast, even my old Dixie Skier when she's all sacked out.
Unless you are really throwing down, I think giant wakes are unnecessary. I've had people throw giant hoochies, batwings, S Bends and Whirleys behind my boat no problem. I'm never going to learn those tricks so I'm happy w/what I got. I believe a lot of people think they need 3000 lbs of ballast to progress and use it as a crutch instead of proper technique, there are expections though. I love watching the old school vids of peeps absolutely goin off on old ski boats w/no tower/high pole and no ballast.

i have never really ridden behind anything spectacular, i rode behind a first year xstar when they first came out but i don't really remember it, that was so long ago, then i spent 2 year riding behond an outboard then i finally got my own boat. i have a 2005 moomba outback and with 700lbs of ballast and a few people on board i have no problem getting enough air to land out in the flats riding at 70 feet and 19-21mph, they wake isn't the biggest but it's got a good shape and a nice pop. so i can't wait to see what it does when i get more sacs and i'm running 1500lbs+ of ballast

Supra launch V drive is my favorite. I have ridden behind super air's, wakesetters, Tige 21v, X-stars and calairs and I would take a supra over any of them, hands down.

1) 2005 VLX w/ Full Tanks + Wedge + 7-8 People = Nice big ramp & a perfect(not too steep) lip
2) 1998 Mastercraft 205 w/ 1900 pounds of water + 7 full grown dudes = Big, thick & just solid as hell
3) 2004 SAN TE w/ Full ballast + 600 pounds of lead + 5 people = a little steep but so effortless straight airs of 6 easy!!
4) 2004 Tige 22i w/ taps at 6 + 1300 pounds of water + 4 people = very abrupt but a ton of fun
I've also enjoyed the older VLX's, new X-2's and a Calabria ProV (this past weekend). But those are my tops. The new VLX is just awesome I love it more than I love my family which is sad...but also true. Enjoy.

| I rode the other day behind a friend's super air nautique 210 2005, he's got his boat full loaded with I think 1500 of ballast, I don't exactly. Well he had told me his wake was so huge that sometimes it was not so easy to super charge at it due to the monster size of the wake, and of course I didn't believe him at first, but when I rode behind it, I understood him perfectly!!!! wow, sometimes I was scared of charging hard at the wake cause the wake was so enormous!!!!!!!!!! but definitiveley best wake I've ridden!!!
