damn. that's a pretty sweet deal. Spend a couple grand on a new transmission and do some work to clean up the rest and have yourself a $30k boat.

some guy was selling a 2003 air natique for 18,000! i thought it was a steal and had my friend call the guy up and some stupid natique dealer took it off his hands so they can sell it for 20k more. dirty dogs.

Replacing a v-drive is easy stuff, not too pricey either. If this thing ain't gone buy next month, I may just pick it up and make some moneeeey.

Yeah that would be great investment. I wish I had that to invest into the boat. Seems like it would be a great deal and a great oppurtunity. Oh well maybe I'll catch another one.

i called the guy on it, and i guess the motor doesnt run, so who knows exactly how bas of shape the thing is in, could require both a new eng and Trans, along with all new wiring.

The motor shouldn't be too much of a problem. They stated there was no water in the engine so its probably the ECM. If I remember correctly around $700. The wiring should be OK,

If they lied and there is internal problems it shouldn't cost too much to rebuild it yourself.

If you're looking at salvage boats you should be fairly mechanicly inclined. If you have to pay somebody to do all of the work for you it's not going to be that good of a deal.

I'm almost through with a degree in engineering, so i'm farely mechanically inclined, and i know how to read manuals, i was merely commenting on the type of compaly selling the boat, they have a pretty sketchy system about selling with an almost blind-like auction where you dont know what others are bidding or if your winning until it's almost done. the other issue is that they "say" that nothing is really wrong with the v-drive, and no water got in to the motor, but without buying the boat, they wont let you check... so it's kind of a big gamble. i'm also guessing that the PP is probably screwed up, along with possibly the alternator, ect. I think i'm gonna have to go look at it very closely before even remotely considering a purchase like this.

Without a doubt its a big gamble. I'm not sure how the boat insurance companies work before they sell it as salvage. I would think there would have to be something terribly wrong to "total" a boat.

When a car gets sold off as salvage for say water damage, usually the title is reissued as a salvage title. You can fix it get it inspected and drive it but when it comes time to sell it, in most cases the fact that it has a salvage title knocks the value of it down substantially. It might be the best running solid vehicle, but it will be worth less than one with a clear title.

So in the end, after your initial purchase and dumping a few grand into it it might only be worth what you have in it. A great boat if your going to keep it for your self but resale might not be as good on it.

Might not be an issue in this market, but someting to keep in mind.

You're all kinda assuming that boat will sell for 17.5k. I bet it sells for an awful lot more. If a dealer buys it, he'll pay what it's worth allowing for the money he has to spend and the possible re-sale value. If a private individual buys it his labour comes "free", he doesn't have to make a profit on it and hence can afford to pay more.

As others have said, it's a risk. Could end up with a real nice boat relatively inexpensively or a heap of on-going trouble.

At least is was fresh water that flooded it, not salt. Had it been the latter, I wouldn't contemplate it.

I'd buy both, then stick the engine and tranny from the smashed up one into the one with a solid hull, then you have a sweet SAN for sub 25 grand.

Swap for the '04 trailer, sell the '02 trailer, engine, drain the v-drive, and sell it, that will make up for at least the 2004 SANTE package, and strip the rest of the '04 for random parts (heater, shower, pop up cleats, etc) and slap 'em on the '02.

Then you'd have a sweet, sweet ride.
