| i have one on my boat, wondering if it will help build a better wake without it on. im going to take mine off to try but cant get on the water for a little while. also is the purpose of these to keep the bow down on acceleration and lift the stern a bit while cruising?? |

| Jayz, Ive had one on mine for the last 2 years. It gets me on plane at about 12 mph pulling a boarder. It helps somewhat with the wake. The only drawback is top end loss. |

The hydrofoil/Whale tail/fin/... is there to lift the end of the boat out of the water, that's why you get on plane faster/ at a lower speed. This seems to be the opposite of getting ballast into the boat which sinks the boat lower into the water. Therefore, I would have thought that you get a smaller wake with the hydrofoil. However, it might have positive effects on the shape and "firmness" of the wake. Then again, that's only theory not facts as I've never compared with and without any foil. Should be partially comparable with trim tabs, except these you would raise as you get on plane and then only effect the time it takes to get on plane.

Because the hydrofoils/stingrays allow you to plane faster, you could put more wieght in - getting on plane is usually the limitting factor in maxing balast. The second thing they do that has a big impact on wake is that it prevents porpoising which allows you to use more trim which will clean up the wake in most I/Os.
WHAT is correct - you will go a couple of MPH slower at top end with them, but not a concern for wakeboarding. |

You want to leave that hydrofoil on. Once I put one on my old I/O I could maintain speed much better, get on plane much better, and put more weight in the boat. I felt like it helped shape my wake better as well.
The only thing I noticed negative about the foil was that if the boat wasnt trimmed up or perfectly balanced it would lean HARD to the side with more weight. _________________ Visit www.nashvillewakeboarder.com for riders in the Nashville, Tn area! |

| I took mine off last weekend and I'm keeping it off. The wake was washed out on the right side all the time and I was able to overcome that with it off. The downside is harder to drive and maintain speed but the upside is bigger and better wake. |
