Bigger Wake.......

I have been wakeboarding for a couple of years now and I am sick of the small wake I get off of my '76 glastron with an evinrude 88 SPL. Besides adding weight to the back of the boat, is there any other way to get the speed I need (around 25 mph). Is there anything I can add to the engine or the boat itself to get the bigger wake????

I bigger outboard? Not only would you have more power, but more wieght as well. Sounds like a winner to me.

trim the motor up some that might help to clean it up a bit and maybe make it bigger but not a alot

Trim up and add weight to the front, not the back. It will force the entire boat deeper into the water which = bigger, and better shaped wake.

if u trim up doesnt it make the wake smaller?

trim it all the way down..... u can clean up the wake a litttle by trimming back up just a bit

kdawg myou are very wrong. Think about what happens when you trim the engine down. It pushes the stern up which= smaller wake. trimming it up pushes the stern down which = steeper wake. The problem with that is it pushes the bow up which =overly steep wake. Trimming up with weight in the bow pushes the whole boat deeper in the water which = bigger (but same shape) wake. That is what you should do to weight an outboard or i/o. The amount of weight and trim varies by boat and personal preference. Remember, if you want it steeper let some weight out of the bow.

trimming does make the wake bigger but it puts something under pressure and made us lose power and now we have to get a new boat cuz were tired of having to fix it.

oh well i guess im guest going to have to settle with a new VLX Wink

kdawg, forces the stern down. That pushes the stern lower in the water. Adding weight to the front will help put the whole boat a little deeper.

Thanks for your guys' input. I found out it is not the wake that is bad, it is the fact that the rope is tied down to a cleat closer to the water and that is pulling me down. When I would let go of the rope and then jump the wake, I would get about 4 feet of air. Thanks again for your help.

A new prop helped my 83 Glastron Carlson Ski Machine out. It has a 150 Merc O/B and after switching to a 16 or 17 pitch 4 fin prop I have much better pull. It lowers my top speed but seems easier on the engine and I can pull the big boys up now lol. Oh and the other thing is I can add much more ballast, currently ghetto sandbags but have two 560lb lounge fat sacs on order...
