There's no difference in stance, it has to do with what end of the board you ollie from. So you're standing switch, right? If you pop off the tail (ollieing with your un-natural leg) that's switch. If you pop off the nose (ollieing with your natural leg) that's fakie.

As with most skateboarding tricks terminology, it can get lots more complicated. If you do a 180 & land in switch manual position, that's actually a fakie nosemanual 'cuz you always reference tricks by the leg you start the trick from. If you were to nollie 180 & land in the same position, that'd be a switch manual.

Sorry if that confused you, but it's kind of a complicated subject so there's no easy way to explain it.

For Regular skaters:

Regular - Right leg pops tail
Switch - Left leg pops tail
Nollie - Left leg pops nose
Fakie - Right leg pops nose

For Goofy skaters:

Regular - Left leg pops tail
Switch - Right leg pops tail
Nollie - Right leg pops nose
Fakie - Left leg pops nose

*Nose being the end of the board towards which you are rolling. I have only used this to make it clear what I mean in this instance. Generally speaking, the nose doesn't have to be the end you're rolling towards. For example, when you do a trick fakie, although you pop off the end you're rolling towards, it's still the tail. Of the 4 above examples, you only actually use the nose when you nollie, all the rest are tail tricks. Try changing 'nose' with 'front', it might make more sense. Oh, and fu*k anyone who says 'switch nollie', thats just trying to sound better than you are. It's fakie, and always will be.

Orzech, it's very common for guys who do strap in sports (wakeboarding, snowboarding, etc) to think switch & fakie are the same thing 'cuz they don't ollie so there isn't a difference to them.

On a side note, one thing that snowboarders do that drives me crazy is throw "Cab 900's" or whatever. First of all, Cabs are fakie 360's, how can you throw a fakie 360 900?!?! Second, how can you tell they're throwing a fakie 900 & not a switch 900? Sorry for the rant, this topic just reminds me of that.

Yes, sort of.

Jester: I know what you mean about the cab thing. There are cabariels and there are half cabs. That is IT. Anything else is a fakie 540/720 whatever.
