Ok, I've been mentally struggling with a backflip on a tramp for a few weeks now. I decided to go to a gymnastics training gym in town and within an hour I was landing backflips on the tramp no problem.
It helped that I had someone there coaching me and spotting me, but he had me go through a few drills first, maybe this will help you:
1-- he had me jump straight up, throw arms str8 up, and stretch out my torso (up) then lean back slightly and pull my knees to my chest had and land on my back. He had me do this a few times until he was satisfied with my form.
2-- Had me do fast backrolls on the ground. At first I'd "land" on my knees. He showed me how to tuck my feet under to "land" on my feet.
3-- Had me lay on the ground on my back, arms stretched above head (just like top of jump before rotation) and quickly pull knees up and shoulders down. Kinda like quick crunches.
4--Then it was time to go for it. Jump straight up, on the bounce you go up, throw your arms up hard, and stretch out your torso (up). then lean back slightly (don't throw head) and yank your knees to chest. He kept telling me to overrotate it.
At first, he spotted me and I was barely getting around, but once I figured out that landing didn't hurt too bad (on their super soft pads) I just went for it and landed on my butt/back a few times. Then he stopped spotting me and i started kinda landing them on my feet. Eventually with enough reps, I was getting them everytime. Very cool
So it cost me $40 and in 1 hour I can now do back tucks. I will likely go back for layouts and fulls (whirlybird). He says that if you throw your head back (to spot landing) you will build bad habits and never be able to spin it (full / whirlybird). So for now I am taking his word for it and keeping my head straight.
Hope that helps.
By the way, I found this place at:
http://www.usgyms.net/kentucky.htm
Just replace kentucky with your state, then start calling asking if they can train you to do a backflip (or whatever trick) and how much it is per hour. Mine was 40/hr and was worth every penny.
Good luck. _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:

working on: I don't know, so happy I just landed backroll! |

| I thought I would be able to get whirlys fairly quickly because I was in gymnastics when I was young and can still do fulls and double fulls on a tramp no problem. Then I realized that my rotation is opposite of a whirly. DANGIT..... It will def. take me some time to get that trick, but I want it before the end of summer. |

| The whirly on a tramp is super easy. My girlfriend was a level 9 gymnast and she spun the wrong way also. To properly do them as a whirly instead of a full, u need to get a good backflip started, jerk the rope across your face while looking over your back shoulder....KEEP LOOKING. To me, it seems like im going to overrotate the spin, but i dont. Taking it to the water will take a little more strength, but exactly the same feel. |

| Landon126, i had a mental breakdown with backflips on a trampoline too, i just couldn't get myself to do it. but my friend who is also a level 9 taught me the correct form, just like you posted, and it helped me a lot. Now i am able to land 360 front flips and whirly birds. |

Landon126, good post. I am glad you actually posted the RIGHT way to do it. Wait, so are whirleys seriously the opposite of fulls? if so, I am screwed . is it a backside spin then? |

wakechick182, yep. backside overhead.
I don't find whirly's too tough, it felt like I was overspining it or something at first but I was still landing short. I figured them out the first day I got my tramp though after a couple good falls. It's the crow mobes i'm struggling with for some reason though! |

| I actually find whirlys easier on the water than on the tramp. I had that same problem spinning the opposite way to when I went to gymnastics. If you look at the good side of it you can pete rose. Now the only flips with spins I do is with a rope tied to a tree. |

wakeboarder_360, how many tries did it take you to get the whirly? I'm not sure if I've got enough hang time to pull it off without a doubleup... but didn't really want to kill myself trying them until I had them down on the tramp... anyways, now that I got a trampoline and can do it, I want to take it to the water. So any tips? From what I understand I just want to go for a shorter cut and higher w2w tanny? |

A whirlybird is the same as a full, it just depends on whether you are regular or goofy. If the backside spin seems unnatural, your only option is to try it switch!
I haven't tried a whirlybird or full yet, that's AFTER i land the tantrum on the water....still no dice.... _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:
