A buddy of mine has a Moomba Mobius and we were just installing some Boss tower speakers for it and are looking for some ideas on how to do the wiring. Specifially how to go about running the wire from the tower to the boat, do most of you drill a hole in the fiberglass and run the wire inside the tower?

I think this topic has come up before, so I searched these forums through and through looking for anything relating to this, but I couldn't find anything. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There should be a tiny hole in each foot of the tower. Drill the size hole need for the wire using it then drill another in the base of the tower so you dont have any gelcoat problems later on. if you want i can get you a picture.

So do you drill holes in the mounting plate? I think your word could be best described in a picture....If you could post a pic it would be great!

I have a supra launch SSV and I drilled a hole throught the mounting plate at the base of the boat on both sides of the boat and then at the base of the bare where it hinges on both sides of the boat. Then I drilled a hole at the top of the tower on each side of the boat. I used a fish tape to run the wire and then where it comes from the hinged area to the mounting plate I covered it in 3/8 flex loom. It looks sweet. Make sure when you run your wire at the bottom by the hing you give yourself enough slack so the tower can still fold forward. Now that I read what I just wrote it seems confusing. Anyway I can post a pic if you want.

Does it void your warranty to drill through that tower mounts? I can't see it weakening the plate that much, but none the less I want to be sure before I go and put some holes in my boat!

Thanks,

Geoff

I would drill the hole near the base, and then into the gel coat, and just cover the wire with something, and maybe a a place were you can disconnect it there. Also make sure you leave enough slack to fold tower. When it comes time to run it, take some fishing line and feed it through one hole, and then use a vaccum to suck it out the other hole. attach the wires to one and and just pull through.

Spy plane,

That's pretty clean looking, I would like to do that to my boat. However, in-order for me to put our boat in our garage I need to take off my tower. Does anyone have any ideas how to make a connector that could be used in an application like spyplanes? Maybe one inside the boat? I am open to any and all ideas right now, but I think I like the idea of drilling into the mounting plate as opposed to the gel coat.

Thanks for the pics, they help alot!

Amp makes a lot of different connectors that are sealed (www.Amp.com) and it may be worth a run to your trusty Radio Shack store to see what they can provide for a connector. Also, www.waytekwire.com is a great source for a million things electrical.

Bill

(OK, I've been told a zillion times not to exaggerate)

I talked with my dealer today, he told me drilling through the tower mounts voids the warranty...So after hearing that I am a bit reluctant to do that. Anyone out there got some examples of their tower speaker installs?

My dealer is the one that told me to drill through the mount.

Well I dunno, I asked him rather quickly and he snapped with a response, GO THROUGH THE GEL COAT! I think he might of just said it to discourage me from doing it. Maybe I will just go ahead and do it. It makes for a much cleaner look.

Maybe I will call another dealer today.
