|
|
I am on a very well used lake.
I am a decent rider (1 year in), but I really, really suck in rough water.
Is there anything that can be done to minimize the effects of rough water?
I hope it is like TS and that over time I will eventually get used to it.
Looking for tips... |

Yeah, just get used to it. Or just stop and surf, that's what we do. Screw trying to ride in rough water. _________________ PS- this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

I just try to do everything as normal. It makes you a lot better, but you fall a lot. _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:
HS+TS w2w jumps, HS+TS w2w 180, backroll
working on: I don't know, so happy I just landed backroll! |

I dont have any advice, but i myself have about the same exp. When i started, i used my buddys board. His wake is so huge i couldnt manage to make the transition outside the wake. I had many other troubles. Then i bought the hyperlite state 140 cause his bindings tore me up. The day i introduced it to the water, it cleared up all the troubles i was havin. I cruised out to my TS edge, didnt have any troubles as ive read some people do. When the water is ruff my board holds the edge as it normally would. Only time i would feel the effects of ruff water was when i was just cruisin north.
Hyperlite state makes a world of difference. _________________ Impressive Newb! |

When the water is choppy focus on bending your knees a little bit more. If you keep your legs straight than you won't be as stable.
And also keep your body above your board and shoulders straight.
Actually just like you would normally do. |

riding in rough water is the absolute most frusterating thing i have ever done. Everytime i do it i always tell myself to just get over it but by the time i get back on the boat ive had like 2 strokes and a mental breakdown. and im usually pretty mellow |

Really focus on a more progressive cut, your edging must be on point to throw your inverts, etc in rough water _________________ Malibu Boats

Try getting a tow on holiday behind a boat on the sea in Dubai! Rough, man, I couldn't even see the wake let alone jump it!
Keep you knees bent to absord bumps, practise switch, wave at the girls.... |

It does suck, but make's you learn how to edge. I'm amazed at what the pros can throw in some of the crappy water at some of the contests with poor conditions.
I agree it's frustrating riding in rough water, so usually I work on my switch riding and easier switch tricks. Makes things a lot easier when you go and do on the smooth stuff later. |
