arrrrrggghhhhh : why the heck do people pull their tubes in the coves and screw up all that butter. yesterday i spent all day trying to wakeboard around theses idiots. they screw up the water and if u di get a chance to get behined them they zig zag back and forth so u cant get around them. it seems to me that rather than go into a cove and create waves wouldnt it be easier to do it in the main channel where the rough conditions already exsist???there is no talking to these people. as long as there brats are having fun, screw everybody else.

Have you tried confronting these people and asking them nicely if they wouldn't mind riding somewhere else? If that fails, just light them up with a paintball gun.

| These posts always make me smile. So why exactly does this guy pulling some kids around in a tube need to do it elsewhere? Where in the boating regulations does it say he needs to keep the water butter for wakeboarders? Who cares if the main channel is already chopped up...maybe he wants to pull the kids through this cove.

who says u have to stay quite in a movie theatre? nobody its common sense. it should be every boaters responsibility to be courteous to other boaters. if i go into another cove and someone is fishing i dont just tear past them kicking up as much wake as possible. some people dont care about anything but themselves. and yes i have tried talking to them but i always get "u dont own the #$@#$ lake" its a question of boating etiquette( i think that is how u spell it)

So many of you just haven't figured out the order of things on lakes yet:
Botttom of food chain: Fishermen, canoers and pontoon boats. Though you may see a glare or a finger or two, these folks pretty much keep to themselves and rarely screw up anybody's water. They enjoy quiet peaceful times on the lakes and would rather not see anyone higher on the food chain so they tend to use the lake at the least convenient times - at sunrise or sunset.
Middle of the food chain: Wakeboarders and Ski boats. Many are highly skilled enthusiast that require smooth water conditions for peak performance. They screw up the water for the bottom of the food chain, particularly the wakeboard boats with large balast systems. They tend to share their musical tastes for an entire cove and are incensed when top of the food chain shows up screwing up their water.
Top of the food chain: PWCs and Tubers. These folks tend to be family oriented and can have fun in any water condition. They may be naive to the needs of boaters lower on the food chain, but will be having a large time irrespective of who they may be sharing the water with. Fortunately for those lower on the food chain, they tend to restrict their activities to between 11AM and 5PM on weekends between Memorial day and Labor day. Particularly large numbers can be seen over the 4th of July w/e.

Guess while we are kicking up waves doing this, might be a problem as well.... Obviously we don't go in a straight line....

I know....I know.....ctipping..........
Now I agree it is good etiquette and just common courtesy if you come into a cove to not screw up the water if someone else is riding there prior to your arrival. Your first post did not indicate who was there first. That said, I still don’t think it is the other boats obligation to leave and leave the butter to you. Nor do I think the other boat should go out where the water is crappy. Let me assure you that I don’t want to pull my son out in the middle of a heavily used channel. He also enjoys getting behind the boat in a tube....so I may be left to pull him in a cove that someone wants all to themselves. Though I would try to be courteous, I wouldn’t think twice about pulling him.

I found the best thing to do is to always bring the equipment for any activity:
Landloc for rough water - you can surf in the worst chop, so always bring it expecting you'll have crappy water.
Tube for the kids - I'm with E.J., All the neices and nephews in my family love the tubes, so we always bring them. A plus - you can surf while pulling the tubes, you just have to be careful of the ropes
Wakeboards - obviously if there's good water, it's a go.
Those of us who will only ride on butter are the minority (I'm included in that population - explains why I've only had a couple runs so far this year). Being that boating is ultimately a family activity, we have to work with the current conditions, be those caused by weather or other wakes, and when it's available, we take the water.

Yea, there's times when I've been caught behind or around a tuber that simply murdered the best water in an area I was, however I also realize that we are all there to have fun and they have just as much right to have fun as I do. I may not agree with it because it is kind of one sided as tubers really don't care what the water conditions are, yet we thrive on butter.
The only time we tube is when the water is just too choppy to do anything else on. However, some people do not have that luxury, so at the end of the day we are all there trying to have the best time we can. I, personally, would rather party with 'em than without 'em. As long as I have a cooler full of beer and sunshine, it just cannot be a bad day.
The only thing that torques me when we're out, isn't tubers, PWC, or even people joy riding... it's the ski droppers. Not only it that inconsiderate, but also dangerous. Other than that, we're all out on the water to have fun. Don't get serious unless you have to.

We went tubing this weekend, but... it was used as a platform to film wakeboard video from.
Rheyzar I'll second you on the ski droppers... Trying to spot a ski that's not brightly colored floating in the water that's just waiting to put a hole in your hull or damage your prop is not easy. That practice should be illegal.

i was in the cove first and for that matter had been most of the morning. im not sayin no one should come into the cove while we are riding . im just saying be courteous and dont screw up someones day especially when they were in that cove first. but what u guys seem to be saying is it is survival of the fittest and screw everybody else.

I think a lot of it is being naive - before I wakeboarded, I really didn't appreciate butter and suspect many have no idea how much they are messing things up. Then I'm sure some look at is I will ride where and when I want. Sometimes it is safety related. I wouldn't put a 5 y.o. on a tube in the middle of a busy lake and would use some less traveled water.
Bottom line is that I just never plan on waekboarding all day over a weekend - it is unrealistic to think you can do that and you will surely be dissapointed when you go to the lake. There will be times when you just have to give in to the sloppy water and hang, surf, or join them and tube yourself.

In my very narrow view, there tends to be two types of tubers...
1-The very young kids. Tend to get pulled at slower speeds and can sometimes go in a straight line. They make up for this by almost running into everyone on the lake because the driver (mom/dad) is busy watching the kid on the tube and not watching where they're going.
2-Older kids/adults. They know what they're doing, so the goal of the driver is to whip them around and try to make the tubers fall off. This is best accomplished by creating (or finding) the biggest wakes possible and driving through them. I believe the full throttle turn is also a very popular move.
That being said, I know there's been times when people in other boats have had a less than favorable opinion of me, too.

| Other wakeboard boats do the same thing: You'll be riding and some other wake boat tries to show you his 12 mph wake, what's up with that, I know I don't care! Now I have to fight his rollers, I mostly come to a NO wake speed if it's a skier or wakeboarder, knee ect. are passing by. To me it's common courtesy.

| well, at my lake i have that luxury, its a private lake with private boat launches, but tubers still come out, i wakeboard in a channel and its pretty narrow and it gets pretty scarey if there are even like 3 boats in there.

I have to admit that even though I board and hate it when someone else chops up my ride...I am guilty of doing the same. If we want to take a break from riding and jump on the tube...It is all about how hard we can get that tube flying through the air by trying to double up and make the tuber finally lose his grip and go flying through the air! But we don't purposely go where people are wakeboarding. We try to find a spot where no one is because we know someones going to end up in the water far away! If there are boarders in our area...they probably got there after we did.

And that's how it's gonna f*cking be. You DON'T own the lake, other boats have the right to blow you over with waves all day. In fact, if I ever saw you on the lake, I would run circles all around you just to piss your overblown wakeboarder ego off.

You can't be serious....
So if I am understanding this correctly kdawg...if someone is screwing up your water, now you are going to pull a weapon and shoot at them or their boat?
I assume you do not carry a handgun on your boat and typed before you thought out your statement.
As a response to your previous post, no I am not saying it is "survival of the fittest and screw everybody else." I am saying it is public water for everyone to enjoy. I just see these posts about how tubers are ruining peoples butter and find it amusing. If someone is riding in a cove that I happen to want to use as well, I will do one of two things, try to find another cove that someone is not in(if that is an option, many times it is not).....or wait until their set is done and then pull a set myself. That may be a wakeboarder that they can cheer and yell to....or the dredded tuber....or someone on a hippystick....who knows. But I am not just going to leave....

I think you are right. Most people don't know. My uncle drove for me once, and he zig-zagged back and forth. I taught him how to drive for riders that day. He had no clue.
I could rant on the subject, but I'll refrain this time. Tubers and joy riders have a right to be there as much as anyone. Just go out earlier or later in the day if you want butter.

Anyways, this is pointless. There are all sorts of assholes, whether they are pulling a tube, board, skis, or just fishing in the stupidest of spots.
I'm gonna go with Rheyzar here.
