#1Yes a three stage has much more vertical pop than a continuous rocker. 3-stage=wake to wake Continuous=wake to flats
#2There is no such thing as a progressive rocker, its called a progressive edge which is where you slowly build up a harder edge into the wake.

Actually im looking over this lf brochure thingy and it says the subjekt has a progessive 3 stage and, the lithmus too. they have all kinds of differnt rockers like hybrid and, smooth 3 stage and, continous agressive? i dont know may be its just a bunch of junk and there trying to make them sound sophisticated. 3 stage will pop you UP
continuous will pop you OUT
there IS a difference and you can feel it.

there IS such thing as a "progressive" rocker. its on the valhalla
there is a "subtle 3 stage" rocker. its on the era.
there is an "abrupt continuous" rocker. its on the 3ds.
there are more, but i dont really wanna list them all.
these are all combinations of 3 stage and continuous rockerlines. for instance there is a board that has a continuous rocker through the rails and 3 stage through the middle of the board but i forget the name. i wanna say its a LF but im not completely sure.

Mobe789, yeah it is an aggressive continuous, but it doesnt have much rocker on it. just 2.3" on the 134cm and 2.4" on the 139cm. this might make you think its lacking in pop, but if you look at some of these pics they will prove otherwise. both riders in the first post are on the 139 http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/235675.html?1119287823

scott a, im stuck between the team 139 and the balance, how are they different, and how are they alike

how much more pop would come out of the balance than the team..its really hard for me to demo boards

so if i'm riding behind an old 1973 i/o 20 ft boat that doesn't make much of a wake, what would be the best to have to get me over the wakes?

Mobe789, well obviously both have six removable fins, so you can "customize" it to suit your riding style. the balance is more of a 3 stage than the team is, so it'll put you a bit higher up as opposed to out. i rode the balance a few years back and i remember it being a real easy board to ride.

CHiLi DaWg, ive never ridden the marius, though i'd like to. the people i know that have ridden it have loved it and have since bought one of their own.

LFADAM, huh?

karkid, if you ride behind an i/o, i would suggest a board with a 3 stage rocker. having a 3 stage will put you more up into the air, so if you cut in harder you will most likely get maximum air while going w2w. if you have a continuous rocker on your board you will get w2w easier, but with less pop.

i think it is the parks that has a three stage in the middle and continuous at the rails. i am currently riding a obrien rail 137 that i learned on.i am 6ft1 195 i am looking at a 141 or 142 either a lf subject(damn ugly graphics) or an obrien clutch or player( i would love a valhalla but i think i will let the price come down a bit).. i think all of these have a three stage rockers. i am looking for more vertical. think any of these will help?

So if you get a lot of pop and go into the flats on every w2w attemtp with a 3 stage

the you should be able to do everything about the same with an Aggressive Continuous right

Why is it that most Continuous are cheaper than 3 stages

if youre hitting the flats all the time on a 3 stage board, then lenghten your rope by 5 feet or so.

kdawg, if youre looking for vertical check out the CWB Transcend. it comes as a 141 so it would fit you fine. it has a continuous rocker, but it will boot you up as well as a parks will. its silky smooth too with nice soft landings. i really liked that board.

Kdawg,

If you get a chance check out the Valhalla. I know you said you wanted to wait till the price came down, but I just checked a couple of places and the Subject is around $400 and the Valhalla is around $350. I know the Player and the Clutch are a little less but the Valhalla is such an awsome board.

I have had beginners to serious top notch riders out on my Valhalla and all of them loved it. The progessive rocker really helps the board pop but still allows the board to be fast.

With all the different fin combinations the board can be setup from a loose snowboard type feel, to extremely locked in like on rails feel.

I know I sound like a broken record but I think that the Valhalla can go up against any other board out there and come out on top.

Later,
jjakober

It has a subtle 3 stage (3.2" worth) and comes in a 138 or 142.

Just remember, boards with a ton of rocker usually ride slower because they tend to push a lot of water.

HyperRash, lengthen the rope another 5 feet then. there is no rule that says you cant ride any farther back than 70 feet. if you need more 5 foot extensions you can order them too. those will run around 15 bucks per length.

HyperRash, add more weight to the front of the boat and speed up a bit. that should clean up the wake back there. try moving weight around and speeding up. im not saying its gonna make your wake perfect, but it should help a bunch.

either that or you can just take less of a cut. it takes less energy and it means you can work on toeside and/or switch w2w since it wont be as hard to clear the wakes at 70 feet.

kdawg, The Clutch is a really smooth board - rolls up the wake for a vertical pop but not too abrupt for a 3-stage board. Soft rail in the middel makes it roll onto edge smoothly while the hard tail edge gives it some bite. The molded fins are super-refined so even finless the board tracks really well. Mellower than the Valhalla...

hyperrider, The Player is more agressive than the Clutch & probably has the hardest "kick" off the wake of any O'Brien board. The quad fins make it track even without the bolt-on fin & it's super wide tip & tail make it really poppy off the wake. It's probably the favorite of O'Brien's national team riders (although the Valhalla is taking over as the most popular board).
