To all who have been injured while wakeboarding,

If you have an injury that you sustained while wakeboarding, please see the following link.

http://webpages.eng.wayne.edu/wake

This site was designed to provide a voluntary online survey for those who have been injured while participating in the sport of wakeboarding. With the help of wakeboarding athletes at all skill levels, we intend to determine the most commonly occurring injuries involved in the sport and gain a greater understanding as to how and why these injuries may be occurring. With this, we hope to determine what preventative measures may be taken in the design of current wakeboarding equipment and athlete training programs to ultimately increase the overall safety of the sport and prolong the wakeboarding careers of participating athletes.

All information collected about you during the course of this study will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law.

If you have any questions regarding this study, please see the website with link provided above, or send an email to wybo@wayne.edu

Without your help, we stand no chance to adequately understand the injury mechanisms that are involved in our sport. Thank you for your help in making our sport a better one.

This is good timing maybe we can figure this stuff out before more of us get injured like parks.

Parks got injured on a 50...I think that hardly qualifies as a wake related injury.

I'm not sure how much but it happened to a friend of mine a month before it happened to me.

His was much worse. The handle actuall tore his bicept away from the bone. He was in the hospital for a while.

Mine didn't tear any muscles but my ENTIRE arm was swolen and purple for over a month. It got all saggy and I could pinch 2-3 inches of blood filled skin from the bottom of my elbow. It happened to both of us on backside spins. I honestly don't think I can prevent it in the future. It's one of those things that you can't control. If I could grab the handle every time I would... I am just now starting to get back to working on them and it's a slow process getting over that fear.

The only advice I'd give about it is when you are SURFING and you fall make sure to toss the handle away from you. At that speed the handle can actually slip around your head and kill you. I dont know of any incidents where that happened but I don't want to be the first.

You should put chiropractor under your list of treatments.

Agreed. I didn't know how to answer that question when I was reporting my back injury. I just put it in the comments section at the bottom.

I will definately have that added to the list, thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for everyone that has taken time to complete the survey. The response from you guys has been awesome so far, hopefully the word will spread and people will keep on reporting their injuries (wow, some of you guys have really been racked!)

You should put laceration under severity of injury because it definately was not an abrasion, and i dont know what to put for how the injury was treated, i got stitches. So unfortunately i really fill that thing out with out those options. Sorry!

Thanks for everyone who has taken the time to complete this survey. We have had a great response so far and will continue to collect these reports over the summer. If you know of anyone else who may have sustained an injury while riding, please spread the word. The more cases we collect...the more accurate of an idea we will have as to the top occurring injuries in our sport. We can then shift our focus to prevention to hopefully reduce some of these injuries common to our sport. Thanks for your help!
