Slow the boat down and practice the backside 180s in the middle of the wake first, then take it outside the wakes to do the drill.

Anybody care to fill us in on what it is? I know Kyle has plenty of drills, probably the most structured coach I've seen. Usually pretty good stuff.

toothpick, basically you're practicing using all your edges both regular and switch. Cut out heelside, loose rope turn in, leverage turn back out... do this three times and then do a surface 180 at the wake and do it all again but switch... so you'd be cutting out toeside and loose rope turn in heelside... leverage turn back out toeside.
Then you go out the other side of the wake and do it again. After that you do the same thing, but with backside surface 180s instead of fronts. Hope I explained that alright. |

ontrider, yeah thats a pretty good explanation...basically you are going through all positions, edges, and handle passes on a wakeboard...but it is all through surface 180s...on the video kyle says it is the one drill that will really progress your riding...so i want to take my time to get it down...so it is easier doing bs surface 180s directly behind the boat than outside the wake then?

Yep, and slower the boat less falls you have as well. Backside surface spins take a bit to get used to but you just have to practise, and really concentrate on your body position because its not really all that natural and its easy to get pulled over.. _________________ Riding

I just watched The Foundation dvd and think I could pull off the FS 180's regular but the switch 180'sand all the BS seem difficult but sounds like a good way to try it behind the boat first. I didn't see the 1st dvd but was there a simpler drill to start with in that one (like the same thing but w/o 180's to start with)?

Cool, thanks for the explanation. I've seen people learn to spin pretty well that way. It also helps to get you real comfy on the board so you land all moves better.

I went down the the wakeboard camp near Orlando and Kyle showed me the 2 min drill---didnt get into the 4 min drill. Anyway, I can't speak to the 4min drill as I have not even attempted a backside 180, but I know the 2 min drill is solid and helps my switch tons. If you guys havent been to the camp and can afford the time/cost, go for it. Its a great learning experience. Plus u get to see pro wakeboarders do some crazy stuff behind the boat!
I have an autographed copy of "The Book"

Actually I only went for 1 day, on New Year's day (family was down in FL for vacation). Kyle went over the basics with my family, as they were all pretty much new to wakeboarding (cept my bro and me). With us, he asked us to ride a bit, then he gave us pointers. He mainly broke me down and showed me where I had bad habits and corrected them. He made my TS edge much much stronger. After going over many drills and riding positions, I asked for specific advice on 360s. He showed me a few drills I could to do practice. Very helpful.
From my experience (which again was only 1 day) it is mainly a place for children under 16, but I am going to go back (not stay the night there) soon. I also learned that I have a lot of work to do haha. Watching Kyle and another guy behind the very boat I rode behind was amazing. I kinda always wondered if those videos made them look cooler than they were somehow, but nop.....they are simply amazing. Kyle was working on a Method grab raley i think while i was there. Also saw the most amazing wakeskater ever--but I forget his name.
I would definentally recommend going to anyone. You will learn a lot and will be better. _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:
