Hi there, you don't just "start" with a raley. How experienced are you? Can you do really big wake jumps? Do you have any other inverts or spins (other than 180s)? How good is your edge? Do you edge all the way through the wake, getting good pop and control?
I ask all of these things because I have seen way too many people think they can do a raley and get owned.
I have tried raleys and am about to start trying them again, luckily I have not had a hard fall yet... yet...mostly just slid out on my butt. That is because I was taught the proper way to do a raley and practiced a good bit on a wakeskate. I can give you step by step how to do a raley, but you need to know that you can get really hurt if you rush it. I would reccommend practicing on a wakeskate.

what is cute? **dripping with sarcasm**did you READ the thread up there...

"I wanna start with this jump"

is she KIDDING???!!! I've been out with guys who have 3-4 spins, 4-5 inverts, COUNTLESS grabs under their belt and they tried...TRIED doing a raley or a batwing after they had mastered all of these others...but no one STARTS with a raley...I mean..C'MON! Rolling Eyes

Tiff--you are so right on! a while back I was out with Drew and he practiced on his wakeskate about 10 times..got gutsy enough to try it on the wakeboard..the first attempt he looked pretty good, just didnt get his feet back under him in time...the second attempt....came smack down on his ribs..he hurt for weeks...He was the first to admit.."I got OWNED" Laughing I don't think he has tried it since! Shocked

Hey Shahi--good luck with that though..let us know how it goes....

The raley is actually not hard to learn, and it is not one of the most advanced tricks. It is, however, a very intimidating trick that can go really bad when it goes bad. If you know the correct method for the trick, and have the balls to do it, getting laid out and back in is quite easy. The problem with the raley is that, like all off axis type tricks, your feet have to make it back under you. The same thing goes for batwings, it's just that you don't hear people getting owned by them as much because they are not as popular as raleys. Also, on a raley you are going much faster and higher than on other tricks, which is harder landings and worse falls.
Anyone notice that our friend has not posted again. I think this post was just to see if she (he) could get a rise out of someone. Of course, I had to bite.

Shahi84, Learning on the cable can be just as painful, but it lets you learn about line tension and release awhole lot easier.

Shahi84, I can't help you on the cable raleys, haven't ridden a cable enough to really explain how it works. Your best bet is to still try it on a wakeskate though, I saw a girl at OWC trying them on a wakeskate, much less painful. Perhaps you can just ask one of the better riders at the cable.

slalomguy, Hmm, no other ways that I really know of. If you don't have a wakeskate just take the boots off your board and ride it like a wakeskate. It will be pretty weird feeling at first, but once you get used to how to maneuver the skate you will be good to go. Some people practice raleys on a tramp, but that just doesn't give you the same pull as a boat. Edge is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of a raley.
Geez I'm long winded.

shahi84 only thing i can say is get ready for some pain. i practiced on a tramp and then threw it behind my boat and i personaly thought it was totaly different. Ive only landed them a few times but have ate stuff over twenty times on this trick. its very fun when you land them but can really hurt you if you dont. I remember one time i thought i broke my neck but only tore the muscles clear down my spine. Im not trying to scare you just do your homework on this one and i wish you the best of luck.
p.s. a wakeskate would save you alot of pain, i didnt have one to try but if you do it is highly recomended. good luck
