First thing is about riding switch, i looked at the thing in the begginer forum and that didnt really help so... i was wondering, do you just get up switch or is doing a 180 easier?
Second thing is about the progressive edge, the first time i went out i went out of the wake and i would turn all the way sideways as if i was getting up and i would always slide and fall. Is this too much progressive edge? and would it help if i leaned back more?

Switch is usually easier to get up switch.

About the edge, if you're sideways at the begining of the cut that is wrong. Swing out like 15-20 ft and sit there for a sec. The boat will start to pull you in gradually. You really dont need to turn till you get close to the wake. Progressive means start slow (speed 1) then at the wake you are at your fastest(speed 10). If you start full blast you won't have any rope load at the end.......hope that makes sense....

skatinmaniac611,

Riding Switch: At the beginning I always found it easier to get up switch. I got so I was alternating every start. If you're having trouble starting straight-up switch, try a regular start until you just break the surface but the board hasn't planed yet and the boat is still coming up to speed. The water will still be soft and you're still plowing a bit - that's a really easy time to flip the board around to switchstance.

Progressive Edging: What Ledmech said.
In addition - Think of it more like an airplane banking. If you just turn your board toward the wake but leave it flat on the surface, yes, you will simply slide (that's how to do a surface 180, or a butterslide). So don't think about "turning" your board at all. Cut outside the wake, then slowly lean back on your heels - just a little at first, then more and more. You will naturally bank toward the wake. So, in answer to your second question, yes, sounds like you probably need to lean more.

Do you have fins on your board? Seems like you might be turning the board instead of diggin in, on the edge. If you turn and the board is flat to the boat and you just slide out, you either have no fins or very small fins.

make sure your heels dig in(for going heelside) and the heelside of the board is cutting the water
